Everybody and Hobbes

A Star Wars/Calvin & Hobbes mashup t-shirt has gotten a lot of buzz, but the 'relentlessly cheerful' James Hance did it first (and it went semi-viral just a few days earlier). But Calvin and Hobbes have gotten 'mashed-up' before... a lot.
« Cthulhu and Hobbes.
« Batmin and Robbes.
« Fight Club (spoiler) illustrated and in text (previously).
« The controversial (for here) Calvin and Jobs.
« Calvin Rockwell
« Kraven the Hunter from Ryan Dunleavy's mashup collection (previously).
« Buddy Cops (incorrectly labeled as P.I.s).
« Semi-related: C&H meet Christopher Robin & Pooh, Hobbes Meets Tony and Role Reversal.
« And, of course, Calvin and Hobbes.

Certainly an improvement over the days of "Peeing Calvin", according to my Hobbes.

I don't really approve of any of this or find i cute or cleaver or whatever. But this one specifically is just really, really terrible.

Ordinarily I don't care for stuff that trades on the Calvin & Hobbes legacy, but that shirt is just adorable. I love the crossbow and the little blaster (Spaceman Solo!) and of course the Falcon and the expressions on their faces. Too cute. (Wouldn't want to pay twenty-five bucks for it, though.)

The other stuff, meh.

I love that the filename of the James Hance one is called "kessel.jpg". Definite geek bonus points there.

Ahh, I see it's named after the title of the piece. Still awesome.

Well, I think it's pretty clever, but the true irony is that Patterson loathed the idea of merchandising the C&H brand.

Lucas and Patterson being on opposite ends of this spectrum, y'see.

I hadn't heard that Fight Club theory before, but it makes a lot of sense. Also, I want the mashup shirt. I love it when fanart captures the spirit of the original; I felt that pretty strongly here.

How long before the "Assange and Cops" version of this t-shirt?

I would wear a John Calvin and Thomas Hobbes shirt -- it's a little bit subtle, and doesn't directly rip off Calvin's visage -- just sort of the feel.

I once wrote up a fake origin of the Calvin Peeing decals, as their existence amuses me to no end.

My fave is a teeny tiny forum avatar that I can't even find online anymore, where Calvin asks Hobbes, "I want you to hit me, as hard as you can..."

I love the crossbow

As the resident pedantic nerd about SF/F weaponry, that there is a bowcaster.

Just FYI, the Calvin peeing stickers have been around since before the Complete Collection or GMail; I clearly remember seeing them back when Calvin was still in the papers, maybe as far back as 1992 or so.

Oh, man, I'm torn. I've always hated the peeing Calvin ripoffs, partly because of copyright infringement. But I really, really, really want to get a Chewie and Han T-shirt for my Star Wars and Calvin and Hobbes obsessed seven-year-old son...
