I happened to be watching part of GLORIOUS today. The tyranny of ducks, the beekeeper covered with bees but still trying to pick up ladies, the part where Achilles encases his vulnerable foot in concrete and then stands around on the battlefield going "Come over here! I want to tell you something."

Magnificent. I love Eddie Izzard. He makes me happy.

I like Eddie Izzard, and for really only one bit that he does, because it taught me something really important about humanity. It's the part where he says something outrageous, and then node affirmatively.. then negatively.. then affirmatively.. etc. etc. etc. God, it's so simple yet SO GENIUS.

Was already a huge fan of Izzard, but then when he did 43 marathons in 51 days (and previously, he was definitely not marathon runner ...), I thought, this guy is actually pretty amazing.

You can still donate to Sport Relief because of those marathons, BTW.

My favorite story? A fan who'd planned to come to one of his shows, and had bought tickets in advance, was seriously hurt a week before the expected show and was in a hospital. His family wrote to Eddie telling him this, hoping that they could get an autographed photo or something.

Instead, Eddie went to visit the guy in the hospital and DID THE WHOLE ACT IN HIS HOSPITAL ROOM JUST FOR HIM, so he wouldn't have to miss it after all.

Maybe I'm a killjoy, but I don't think this is the place to put links to what are pretty much bootleg videos of standup performances, most of which can be purchased on DVD and thus PAY THE VERY GUY WE ALL LOVE.

I'm in no position to throw stones about online piracy, but I'm not a big fan of posting someone's entire body of work for free on here, especially when it's someone still living whose work is readily available through legal channels. We all know where the torrent sites are. Give us some clips from youtube or whatever,* and we'll rent the DVD or make our own arrangements if we're interested.

* (Like, the sublime bit hanoixan referenced above. Setup: Izzard heard on the way to the gig that Engelbert Humperdinck had died.)

But, this post did lead me to discover that most of Izzard's videos are available for sale (not rent, annoyingly) on iTunes. (I got that link from rotten tomatoes -- not sure if it's an affiliate link, sorry if so.) That includes Live from Wembley, which I hadn't come across yet and seems to be well reviewed. So, cool!
