Snakes (almost) on a Plane

95 snakes found in bag at Malaysia airport. That's 95 live boa constrictors. Keng Liang "Anson" Wong, 52, was previously convicted of wildlife trafficking in the United States. It is unclear whether he served the full term. (previously)

Boa constrictors from Malaysia? Perhaps reticulated pythons? That said, I vote for giving him a damn good flogging!

Ways to get caught smuggling exotic snakes:

Short breathe
Squirming asexually
Erogenous zone petting
Talking to the hand
Unheard beat of drums
Asking for a double ice

Now that the snakes on a plane joke has been made, where do we go from here?

It will be good for the world when this guy dies.

Prison is not good enough for this guy, whose wife helped him to run his business when he was behind bars the first time. I doubt that he's fazed by the prospect of jail.

I'm actually shocked that Wong was apprehended in KLIA. This Nat Geo article from January suggests that he has allies in customs and the freaking Department of Wildlife and National Parks. Worse, a number of parks and sanctuaries in the country appear to be fronts for animal smuggling operations. *sigh*

Isn't this what No-Fly lists are for?

It's not often I envy airport security personnel. It seems like a pretty shit job most of the time. But I would really have liked to see a bag full of 95 boa constrictors break open on a conveyor belt. I mean, people often assume that I, as a bartender, have tons of interesting bar stories, but I ain't got nothing on a bag full of boa constrictors bursting open on my shift.

after his bag bursting with 95 live boa constrictors broke open on a luggage conveyer belt at Kuala Lumpur International Airport

My mother-in-law is unbelievably phobic of snakes. Like mistakenly-beat-a-garden-hose-to-death-with-a-shovel-while-screaming level of phobic.

I'm trying to imagine her standing waiting for her bags when this happened. I can only assume that most of the casualties to people nearby would have been the result of her going from standing still to supersonic in the space of just a few feet, as she went for the door.

Who let the snakes on a plane out of the bag?

Thanks, now I've got this stuck in my head:

WHO LET THE SNAKES OUT? HISSSS HISSS HISSS HISSS

WHO LET THE SNAKES OUT? HISSSS HISSS HISSS HISSS...

Given that exotic snakes are, without fail, smuggled in groups of 100, the question becomes- where did Anson hide the final five?

Anything over, say, 20 snakes (or monkeys or birds or whatever) starts to sound less like a crime scheme and more like a bad dare.

together with a few other snakes and a turtle

All in ONE bag? What the hell? I can't even imagine the size of the bag that holds 95 boas, plus "a few other snakes and a turtle." I keep envisioning this giant burlap sack that won't stop moving.
