My heart is no longer black and withered - I watched the video. Pretty damn adorable. posted by Slack-a-gogo at 8:31 AM on September 3, 2010
with this youtube video's overweening narration, i much prefer this video of admittedly land-locked but swimmingly winning sloths (who can also swim). although, of course, the Mark Mothersbaugh soudtrack could seem twee to some. posted by simulacra at 8:35 AM on September 3, 2010
Local Interest Feature Reporter INSISTS clip end with affectionate petting, despite dog's lack of interest. posted by theclaw at 8:36 AM on September 3, 2010 [1 favorite]
Whenever I see something like this, I'm always left wondering what each of the species perceives the other to be: Does the dog see the dolphin as another dog who has too little hair and is mystifyingly fast in the water? Does the dolphin see the dog as a sort of stupid podmate who forgot how to use its flipper?
Or do they recognize that they are both different, and just don't care?
Either way, it's full of cuteness. posted by quin at 8:41 AM on September 3, 2010 [7 favorites]

My Lab thinks I'M a dolphin. I don't bother to correct her because, well, my boyfriend won't feed me sardines when I do a trick... posted by OneMonkeysUncle at 9:16 AM on September 3, 2010 [1 favorite]
I love this video. I love that the dog goes to all that trouble to go out and be with his pal, and then when the dolphin spots the boat leaving, he's like "later man." And the dog is like, "I'd go with you but..." And the Dolphin is like, "whatever, see you tomorrow man." And the dog is like, "Oh boy, I can't wait until tomorrow." And then the dolphin leaves. posted by Elmore at 9:18 AM on September 3, 2010 [6 favorites]

Ugh, James Taylor? And man, that guy's incessant mugging got old after about a second and a half.
Yes, the dolphin-dog part was pretty great. posted by ibmcginty at 9:22 AM on September 3, 2010

Cute indeed. Love inter-species friendships! But good grief - can you imagine the horror if the dolphin had...you know...attacked the dog?
OTOH, wouldn't it have been even cooler if the dolphin came onto land to play with the dog? NOW you've got a news-worthy story, my friend. posted by davidmsc at 10:32 AM on September 3, 2010
That dolphin really doesn't love the dog. You can tell in the dorsal fluke. It's just a rebound relationship. posted by clvrmnky at 10:46 AM on September 3, 2010

Dolphin love doesn't really smolder, either, in my experience. It stings a bit at first, but once you relax, that fades away and it starts to feel amazing. Communication is the key. YMMV. posted by Casimir at 7:08 PM on September 3, 2010
