The power of music? The power of empathy.

Well, music can help people find empathy, so it's the same difference.

Great story.

If the guy never thought how the German was feeling, we'd be one heart warming story less today. The music was the medium, he had already found the empathy. But yeah great vid <3

I shared this the other day. Although we can't verify the story, of course, I wouldn't doubt the honesty of the man himself; look at that face.

I can't imagine hearing a story like this from a veteran of a recent war.

Great story; thanks for sharing it.

I could have done without the camera making "arty" jumps from one angle to the next—just let the guy tell his story, and stop distracting us!—but what the hell, it's a small price to pay.

I found myself again puzzled by how a thing as evil as war can bring out the best in people.

Does anyone want to, you know, provide a summary? Maybe, possibly, in the summary would have been a good place to put the summary?

His story brings to mind the WWI Christmas Truce (1914). It was the subject of the 2005 film Joyeux Noël [trailer].

Does anyone want to, you know, provide a summary?

Someone doesn't shoot a guy playing a trumpet.

Perhaps because people are sometimes able to be more than the situation they find themselves in.

Unless he's playing it at 3am, when it's completely justified.

Fantastic post. With all the stories on stupid animal tricks and get-ricn-quick schemes, this one was quite refreshing.
