I would not have guessed that the one thing that improves a baby monkey riding on a pig is an audio homage to "Sympathy for the Devil," but the proof is before me and I cannot contravene it.

If you put 100 monkeys on 100 pigs, eventually, they could collectively win the Kentucky Derby.

The gorilla with the DS looks like a sublimely pleased Simpsons character. But if that thing belonged to my boy, he wouldn't be getting it back until he could show he'd take better care of it than a gorilla would.

Word. I sang that song to myself for WEEKS. Bow bippa bow bow bow!

This all great!

My 7.5-year-old states with some authority that the cats flushing toilets is the funniest of the bunch. That's probably just because we have a cat so she can relate to it.

a monkey rides a speeding pig
rides off into the sunset
where he's going, and for how long
i'm afraid we just don't know yet
but he'll ride back someday
perhaps on a bike or a car
we'll applaud his driving skills and say
"that monkey, he went far!"

BTW, that's a boar, isn't it? Not a pig. Unless I'm mistaken.

posted by jsavimbi at 6:10 PM on September 17, 2010

flapjax, that's totally a baby boar. And a baby monkey riding on a baby inoshishi is SO MUCH CUTER than just a regular ol' pig!
posted by emmling at 6:25 PM on September 17, 2010

Those otters are not babies! Those are regular-sized otters! I just saw some otters at my local nature center last weekend, and these, sirrah, are NOT baby otters.

A boar is an adult male swine. The little piglet is probably a little baby wild pig.
posted by Katjusa Roquette at 6:49 PM on September 17, 2010 [1 favorite]

It's a uribo, so a wild board piglet.

FYI, this was taken in Fukuchiyama City Zoo in the north of Kyoto Prefecture and made the national news here in Japan two weeks ago.

Hmm, then I just want to add a link to Parry Gripp's homepage where he puts up a new song (almost) every week, and inform you of the fact that he is one of the founding members of Nerf Herder, a band that produced nerd rock before it was cool to do so...

Oh, and: baby otters.

Parry gripp- what happened? His brand of pop punk with nerf herder got me through high school. Now it's all about baby animals and how cute they are.

These songs are quite addictive though, I must say.

Parry Gripp got a literature degree at the same small college inside a university that I did, where every week all the literature students sit through a presentation by a published writer (often a graduate of the college) who reads some of their poetry or memoirs or literary fiction, talks about their path to a career as a writer, and answers questions about getting an agent or whatever. Pretty standard.

Then one day Parry Gripp was the invited writer-graduate, so he played his YouTube videos for a while, talked about the complications of copyright law and derivative works, and talked a little about how he ended up making a career from writing dumb jingles (I don't remember the process — I think it was just that he made some videos for fun and they ended up being surprisingly popular, so he took that formula and ran with it). It was a bit abrasive, with high-pitched inane videos at full volume in a quiet lecture hall, but it was nice to see working with internet mediums discussed as an alternate career possibility for people who like to write and be creative. I like that! That's more or less what I do!

But my dear literature student friends, who don't spend much time on YouTube and are working on becoming poets and novelists? Yeeeah. Without the context of the finer points of internet culture, they thought it was the most annoying and baffling presentation in recent memory. Oh well.

Parry Gripp has ruined my life. You can't really conduct yourself properly when you feel compelled to yell, "Baby monkey! Baby monkey! Riding on a pig baby monkey!" at random intervals in an unpolished falsetto.
posted by cmoj at 8:14 AM on September 19, 2010 [2 favorites]

Oh my god yes. Thank you for posting this. I was having a total crap day and now I'm giggling hysterically. I wonder if I should run away and join the zoo?
(Although I am also concerned that I'll spend the rest of the week randomly yelling out "Riding on a pig baby monkey!")
