Where did that great song from Long-Haired Hare come from, anyway?

From "The Father of Tap" (Dance), that's where.

Sheet Music

LISTEN
Len Spencer, 1896
Danny Barker & Dick Hyman, 1996

I originally discovered this info on a blog whose name I forget and which I could not find in half an hour's Googling - if any of you know what it was, please link

The remarkable thing about this sort of discovery is that whenever I happen across something like it, I think to myself "HEY! They're ripping off Bugs Bunny's bit!" (That's right, I'm lookin' at you, Gene Kelly!)

Isn't the Long-Haired Hare one of the few times that Bugs appears sans gloves?

When in the audience waiting for the conductor, does anyone else mutter or think "Leopold!" when the leader arrives?
