Story about a rasta getting arrested for selling veg, told through the medium of ragga (slyt)
posted by Not Supplied (16 comments total)

This post was deleted for the following reason: kind of an average ho-hum ragga video. -- mathowie

Some SLYTs work and some don't. I don't get why this one is a FPP. Is this a true story? Has Lieutenant Stitchie, whom you don't even mention, contributed more to ragga than this SLYT lets on? This is the first post tagged with ragga -- give us something more about the genre. Something more about any of it, please.

Er..well if you're interested look into it. I just thought it was a bit unusual and interesting.

This is super weak as a FPP.

Anyway, for some more context, here is Stitchie's official website -- apparently, he's now transitioned from dancehall to gospel:

Ordained as a Minister of the Gospel, a Psalmist and a born-again Kingdom Citizen whose repertoire is totally dedicated to all things Christ-Like, Stitchie, like the great characters of the bible, had his name changed after conversion by doing away with the "Lieutenant" part of his moniker, which was a throw back to the days when he was king of the dancehall as Lt. Stitchie, The Governor.

Here are the lyrics to the video, in case it helps to read along. It's supposed to be a funny song, laughing both at and with the dread.

Good stuff, but a fpp doesn't have to be researched does it? I haven't got a story to tell about L.T. Stitchie, I just thought it was 'best of the web'

Seems to me like you have a hammer of 'intelligent posts' and everything looks like a nail.

You need to answer -- either through the link's obvious internal brilliance, or through your context and description -- the question of "what makes this different than any of a million other older dancehall videos?"

And honestly, the answer in this case is "not much." It's not Stitchie's best work, and it's far from the best of dancehall of that era. It's a cute, jokey song, but a some people are going to struggle with understanding the lyrics enough to get the jokes.

I mean, I love seeing more dancehall FPPs here (and there was a great one just a few days ago), but this is just so shallow.

Well tbh I don't know much about dancehall videos...I've seen a fair few on youtube but nothing that tells a story like this so it jumped out.

I mean your saying it's nothing unique but you don't know that unless you know it if you get what I mean.

One thing that struck me was how I could understand the lyrics with the story whereas often I can't follow it so well.

You obviously do know about dancehall vids so you've added some more context...is that so bad.

I mean I can see with news posts you research it, check the accuracy have a few sources, but I wasn't going to hold myself to that standard of journalism looking at youtube on Sun morning, so it wouldn't have got posted...and some people liked it.

That comment for Forktine/knile btw.

Interesting video, but yeah . . . a really weak post. As mentioned, it's not one of dancehall's nor Stitchie's best or most original, and devoid of context or background, there's not much point to it.
