I meant that they worked as sort of call and response.
Three Question Marks: the photo/story/painting blog of artist "merkley???"
Answer: Apparently, some pretty damn cool art.
Guess I should have said as much in my post.
At first I was kind of meh on the photos, but even though they're posed, there is a weird candidness to them. Also the coloring and lighting gives them an almost HDR feel. The more I look at them the more captivating and compelling they are. posted by bionic.junkie at 11:00 AM on September 29, 2010
I've gone through this guy's photostream before, and I thought it was interesting. Unfortunately, our local newsweekly plastered this on their cover a few weeks ago, and I hated it. posted by redsparkler at 11:19 AM on September 29, 2010
This guy looks like he has much more fun in life than I do.
Oh, man, Merkley. That brings back some memories. Crazy what he's become. The first time I met Merkley was, I think, 1990 at a ska show in Provo, Utah. It's interesting how common the Provo-->San Francisco life path is. Even back then, you could tell Merkley was destined for crazy and great things. posted by The World Famous at 12:41 PM on September 29, 2010
I used to live with Merkley in Provo. He was my roommate for a couple of years. Insanely talented and insane. He managed my band, Swim Herschel Swim. He was best at promotion. Not so good with the $$$. :-). I've said as much to his face, so this isn't meant as a dig.
Ironically, he was more Mormon than I was in 1989 and then he swung hard the other way around the same time I did. So happy to see him sharing his talent with the world. I was always angry he didn't do more with his multitude of skills. posted by blurb at 2:08 PM on September 29, 2010 [1 favorite]
blurb, it was your band's show that I was at when I met Merkley in '90 (or maybe it was '91). It was Swim and the Toasters, I think. Crazy. posted by The World Famous at 2:26 PM on September 29, 2010 [1 favorite]
One of my first Flickr 'contacts' so I could keep up with what he was doing. I really like his stuff. He just recently started posting again. 'Doods' this time. I wanted to buy his book but couldn't afford it. posted by bdave at 3:43 PM on September 29, 2010
