I guess I am not the only one who (air-)drummed along to the NES back in the day. Love it, thanks.

My man rushes those fast snare roll fills in that first link, though. He needs to work on that.

He nailed the hell outta the tight little parts on "MegaMan 9 Wily Stage 2" and "Castlevania 2". Impressive! There, though, I kinda wish he didn't keep his hi-hats so loose the whole time. Some really crisp hat work there would've been nice, and would've made a good contrast with all the splashy cymbal work toward the end. On Ninja Gaiden 2 and Ghosts and Goblins I think the loose, swishy hats are appropriate.

He's internalized these tunes, for sure. Now what'd be cool would be if he put together a band to do this stuff live: guitar, keyboards, bass... doing all Nintendo music. I reckon they'd get a following.

Man, I so wanted him to go off at the end of Ghosts & Goblins. Overall they were fairly restrained and surprisingly tight. Good stuff.

I don't know why it is, but I absolutely love it when chiptunes use vibrato (and most of the songs he chose seem to feature it a lot).

Speaking of Nintendo-related music, the new Powerglove album is freaking awesome.

Pretty cool. I know that Os Gamboys is another band (a Brazilian one) that also does covers of classic video game music. You can also check out No Question, which does hip hop with video game music samples.

these are great! The Ghosts and Goblins one ends up sounding like reggae with drums, and Kraid's lair turns into sort of a power ballad.

When I was in college, I was a jazz studies major for awhile. This reminds me of a friend of mine who played bass in the top jazz combo at our school. He did an arrangement of some Nintendo music for the combo. It was great to see these great jazz musicians who usually played stuff by Coltrane and Duke Ellington suddenly transition into the theme from Bionic Commando. Wynton Marsalis would not have approved, I'm sure.
