Sundance is a little ski resort about twenty minutes up the road from me... it's quiet during the winter, and a great date in the summer ...and aside from it's eponymous (and off-site) film festival, who would have guessed that it was so famous? Do you have any local favorites in your neck of the woods... places that are surprising local hotspots (a la "a prophet in his own country")?

(On the topic of Sundance, but not on the topic of unexpected local gems... I've been thinking that if there was enough interest in an Intermountain MeFi Fest, I'd love to rent a couple of cabins up at Sundance for a Friday night get together -- catered, with a local band, and enough advance notice to encourage folks from all over to show. If you're interested, e-mail or AIM me... because I'd rather not muck-up this thread with something that could be handled better in an e-mail.)

Of all the Mormon towns in Utah (and there are a lot of them) Park City isn't one of them.

Nor is Sundance... which is really isn't a town, but a resort about twenty minutes up the canyon.

Sundance and Mt. Timpanogas are very beautiful and a joy to hike and only 15 mins from the office (30 mins from home). This is the only place I've lived where I can sit and code for a few hours in the morning, hop into the miata and have lunch next to a roaring waterfall 7,500 feet up in an aspen grove. Sundance and this mountain, my first gasping alpine conquest at 11,500 ft, convinced this midwestern boy to accept the job offer in Utah despite being rather agnostic. One of the most beautiful places I've ever been with a side benefit of having co-workers who understand my obscure biblical references.
