Awesome People Being Awesome

Some of those were pretty cool but a few were rather... is that it? I mean, the guy diving into the waterfall? I don't think that really gets to awesome level if we don't get to see him coming out.

I almost subtitled it "and a few dumb people being dumb" but I thought the awesome factor outweighed the dumb.

Reckless people being reckless. And Roger Federer being Roger Federer.

Also includes ads being shitty and hoaxes being fakey.

Some of these are fakes. AWESOME FAKES.

Also, I didn't see it in there, but I think this video is pretty awesome in the old-school sense of the word, "inspiring apprehension or fear." So much fear.

Federer's real awesome is better than his fake awesome.

Also, hope that little girl gets into bike racing.

Yeah, the little girl and here slide parking job is extra badass. Overall, I agree: awesome!

I absolutely love that people have the enthusiasm and energy to learn these kinds of things, not to mention the athleticism. Is that guy at :45 actually running on water?

First person perspective of jumping off things from great heights into tiny pools of water. DO NOT WANT.

(And yeah, I believe the running on water was debunked/admitted to be fake.

The guy running on water is fake. We pretty much established that here on Metafilter some time ago. Although it is an awesome fake.

Interesting to note that 99 percent of the people who do awesome things are guys. Possibly because girls don't actually have to DO anything to be awesome. Doing things is just a bonus, for women.

The ping pong clip was beyond belief, I had to find the original:

Most of the stunts fall into two categories: hitting impossible targets (most frequently basketball hoops) and taking flying leaps and surviving. The outtakes of the first category would be totally boring, the second category utterly horrifying (or soon to be seen in "Jackass 4").

Ping Pong should always be like the one in Shit Parades link. Awesome.

I had to go back to see the little girl being, yes, awesome, as all those high-flying leaps were making me fear death just by watching them. I have scars and broken bits from five-minute meetings with skateboards. (Okay, there was a cement floor and a jumprope and some ill-advised idea to attempt to do both at the same time involved, but even if it had worked it would never have been awesome)

Um. This is full of fakes, unimpressive stunts, edited out takes, and crappy techno. While people are awesome, this is no evidence of that.

Heroic people being heroes?

They rarely have multiple cameras capturing their every move.

I can vouch for at least one of them being real. Mainly because I can do that myself!

(Of course I'm referring to the little shoe-shimmy down the stairs at 3:55. Not any of the impressive ones)

I'll have to verify, but I'm pretty sure the clip of the cheerleader being flipped through the basketball hoop ended with a concussion. She hits the back of her head on the rim as she goes through.

Well ok, I’ll try. But I have never tried to explain it. I basically learned it by feel and practice. In fact this is the first time I have seen anyone else do it, but that guy can do it way smoother than I can.

First of all, put your hands on the damn handrails! Seriously!

Now, you put your lead foot (I use my left but I assume it can differ) on a lower step and the other foot in the step above. Hang both feet off their steps until about half of each foot is over the edge. Foot arches right on stair edges. And then just point your feet down until your feet slide off and land on the next steps down. But, you try to hit the next step right at the edges with that same downward angle of your feet. Normally you need to push off a little on each step with your back foot, that is where that little shimmy comes in. The only real trick is to find the perfect distance apart for your feet. And when you have it, locking your legs so they don't significantly move apart.

It is a lot easer on slick stairs, like wet concrete or carpet like in the video. Oh and use flat sole shoes. One time I was wearing dress shoes with a bit of a heel and was walking down some stairs, without thinking I just started doing it and got real close to going ass over tea kettle down the stairs. Handrails!

Widepath, the search is now on for the perfect set of stairs. Thanks! Methinks perfection of this technique also involves just the right shoe size.

You know what they say about shoe size? It helps you slide down stairs better.
