Can they make a linux version of the virus? I'm just not getting it. posted by azarbayejani at 10:12 PM on November 3, 2010
I'm pretty certain there is no virus. I actually hadn't thought to check the source code before I posted this. posted by Rory Marinich at 10:39 PM on November 3, 2010

Is "this" supposed to be "enjoyed" in an "ironic" "fashion"?
Or is there a 100k artist's statement that goes on about the "common vernacular of the early days of web design" to justify all these blown-up images with bad transparency and really crude photoshoppery? posted by egypturnash at 12:00 AM on November 4, 2010
I would suspect, both. posted by luftmensch at 12:16 AM on November 4, 2010
It's migraine inducing -- there's a good reason why site's don't do that now. Can there not be some way of warning the migraine prone not to click. Seriously. posted by bwonder2 at 1:50 AM on November 4, 2010
Ignore the haters, man, this is sublime in many ways... one of them being that it reminds me of Lollie McLain... Another thing so anti-cool that it veers into cool again. As existentialist depression-ridden teenager two decades ago I was laughing at it, but some of the writing gave me the tiniest warm feeling. I did not know back then the internet could do this. (Metafilter didn't exist yet for one thing /Pandering mode)
That was nothing compared though to emailing the site's author (still in 1993 or so) and finding out she'd lost pretty much everything in life, was living in a trailer in someone's back garden, and just making spending her time making this site because she thought she could help others who are worse off. I honestly get a little pissed off at the way people sneer at anything that decides to employ irony. Perhaps it's because so many people do irony poorly? But I like irony, and I like things like this where you can either sit and think about it or you can just enjoy it for what it is.
For what it's worth, I got this link originally from a friend who'd seen Jacob Ciocci, one of the founders of Paper Rad, speak. But I wanted to post it here before I knew a thing about Paper Rad; the page stood on its own merits.
It's meant as a commentary on kitsch and on pop art. But it passes my "good art" test of "would I like this even if it wasn't intended to provoke discussion?" So I posted it here. Hopefully that's not too offensive to nobody. posted by Rory Marinich at 7:24 AM on November 4, 2010
Def worth spending hours or days in the Paperrad universe. blissout posted by naju at 8:11 AM on November 4, 2010

We saw Paper Rad's show in SF in 2006, and it was swell! They're great.
