I actually hadn't seen the dog part of it until a friend emailed this link to me a few days ago, but the cat part is from "The Diary of a Mad Housecat", which was a big email forward about 12 years ago. The guy who wrote it has a website and has published several books.

Should the post be removed?

I'm liking the links people are giving the comments.

As I watch my dogs and cats interact, I realize that it's amazing that two animals could be so different in terms of behavior and still be willing to sleep near on another on the bed.

Eye contact: cats do it as affection, dogs treat it as hostile.
Tails: cats swish when angry, dogs wag when happy.
Showing the belly: Dogs view this as a sign of submission, cats use this as a combat pose.

The list just goes on and on. It's like they are designed to not be able to communicate on any level.

Except the bed. Sleeping all curled up is always a good thing. Its the one place where all animosity is put on hold temporarily.
