Not to be too much of a geek (I hope), but those three games are actually all quite different.

I love this genre (Golden Axe is one of my favorite oldschool games) and I'm a sucker for any opportunity to outfit my character with new and better implements of destruction. To be honest though I found the graphics boring, the gameplay rather monotonous, and the difference between the aforesaid implements to be rather hard to discern. It all just seems a bit uninspired.
Definitely a rockin' soundtrack, though. posted by Scientist at 7:21 PM on November 28, 2010

Point taken. I guess I'm referring more to the overall "D&D, with GUITAAAAAAAAARS!" atmosphere of certain mid-to-late '80s/early '90s arcade games than their actual gameplay. posted by Strange Interlude at 7:22 PM on November 28, 2010

Wow, that's pretty buggy. I was in the middle of the second level, and my dude disappeared, never to be seen again, while the enemies sat around and attacked thin air. posted by fnerg at 2:15 AM on November 29, 2010 [1 favorite]
Man, Golden Axe had charm and cheesy digitized sound samples to spare. posted by HeroZero at 6:14 AM on November 29, 2010
