So Why Is Wikileaks A Good Thing Again?

This post was deleted for the following reason: this should probably go in one of the other wikileaks threads that is already open. -- jessamyn

Ain't clickin' that link but the answer is "because anything that forces government transparency is good" and nobody would disagree with that if we were talking about the Bush Administration instead of Obama's; and there won't be a whole lot of critics of Wikileaks in 2 years during the Thune/Romney Administration, either.

I think you may be pleasantly surprised!

This comment should be hung up in the MeFi Hall of Fame, RTFA wing.

For Christ's sake. The site is a clone of What the fuck has Obama done so far but with stuff taken from Wikileaks. Since this is a place where we are terrified to click on the links now, apparently.

Another fucking Wikileaks thread? Oh, and hey, the first four or so either don't really amount to much — YAY, they published the opt-in emails of a neo-nazi list; hey, I'd forgotten they were the ones that published that bunch of climate emails that were widely misrepresented as support for climate denialists — or they misrepresent the significance of the leaks.

I'm fucking sick of the cheerleading for Wikileaks and the glib, dismissive tone of this single-serving website is antithetical to a rational discussion of transparency, privacy, censorship or good governance. They do good and bad, and it seems like all the volume has gone up on the assholes who can only repeat the same talking points over and over again on either side, and only have sarcasm and misrepresentation to meet those they disagree with.

This morning I tweeted that I had removed all the money I had in my paypall account so they could no longer use it to make money.

Three hours later I had several replies by someone I do not know but who has a blossoming career in the bareback porn industry. They called me all sorts of names for not supporting our troops and blah blah blah. A link to this shut him up.

And that is how I bareback, yo.
