To be slightly picky, Pfannkuchen is a generic German term for ordinary pancakes, as well as a local-to-Berlin term for these delicious buns with a jam filling and sugar coating on one side. In most of the rest of Germany, they're just called Berliner. A kind of un-holy donut made of a soft yeast dough, as seen here. Brilliant little clip.
I used to buy last day's Berliner at the bakery close to my school, during the great break, for half the money, meaning twice as many not-yet-quite-stale Berliner. I was more or less made of the stuff at the time. posted by Namlit at 5:37 PM on December 9, 2010 [2 favorites]

Just about anywhere I go and ask for espresso they use that machine and it is no big deal...in fact, that is also what I got throughout Italy. posted by Postroad at 6:16 PM on December 9, 2010
As Postroad implied, that guy in the "Making Espresso" clip is overthinking a cup of (coffee) beans.
not that what he says is untrue; just a bit - shall we say - overextracted. posted by Greg_Ace at 6:35 PM on December 9, 2010

I love all of these videos. Even the coffee ones, and I don't drink coffee. posted by flibbertigibbet at 7:16 PM on December 9, 2010
Now I'm hungry for that steak tartare and a piping hot currywurst.
