Faces from the Past is a blog of beautiful images of fascinating people, including Djuna Barnes, Audrey Hepburn, Louise Brooks, Sappho and Eve.

Unfortunately, the site seems to be no longer updated.

Audrey Hepburn and Louise Brooks are my penultimate dream girls! Man, they just don't make women like they used to...

Thanks for the post!

Well that's true in that Audrey's good looks are obviously the result of some sort of drastic mutation.

Well, it's not like that 1877 French painting of Sappho has anything at all to do with the woman who lived and wrote celebrated poetry ~600 B.C.

In the text there should have been a mention of the most important, horrible fact about Sappho -- that almost all of the work in her nine volumes of poetry was deliberately destroyed, and nearly all of what we have known about her writing in modern times came from quotes in other ancient texts that did survive. I seem to recall some academic cheering recently that a *fourth* intact poem by Sappho was uncovered. Four poems. Pretty sad, considering the way pre-Christian Era scholars described her poetry.

If you are interested in high res images of early Hollywood stars, check out Doctor Macro's High Quality Movie Scans, which is still being updated. (previously)
