The Tron room in THe IceHotel

This year the IceHotel, built out of 30,000 tons of snow and 4,000 tons of ice, features a Tron room. Cool does not even begin to describe it.

Full disclosure, I've just been in it and it is every bit as awesome as you'd expect (and then some). Previous Icehotel posts: The Ice Hotel '04.

That "making of" video is by far the best of the Tron films.

Also, portrait of the artists under the ice-chandelier :)

This is quite awesome, dabitch - did you just have a day visit or did you stay over? I've been fascinated with the ice hotels ever since I first heard of them - been keeping my eye on this Hôtel de Glace in Quebec, but the Tron room lends further allure.

I hope you don't mind me reposting this but it is a really great photo - love the hat!

Yes, I am aware it's not actually a bulldozer. I made a deliberate exaggeration for comic intent.

For those that are keeping score at home, it appears to be a Volvo Wheel Loader in the L series, probably L60-L90 since it doesn't look that big.

In the interest of humor though, "A Bulldozer" is funnier than "A Volvo L60 Wheel Loader" as a punchline.

Unless you say it in German.

Then it's hillarious, as German comedy tends to be.

madamjujujive , I've stayed over before (1998) but decided not to now this time. Really regretted that when I saw the Tron room! :) It's actually quite a nice nights sleep, crisp cold air and warm cozy sleeping bags on reindeer hides. The Hotel people wake you up with your choice of hot blueberry soup or coffee and you beeline it to the sauna - I had to spend ten minutes chipping my shoes out of the ice though, they had somehow frozen into the floor.

There is an ice bar in Stockholm made by the same people who run the ice hotel, but as this is so far the coldest winter in 150 years, the whole country of Sweden is an ice hotel.

Hehe, true that three blind mice. There's Absolut Icebars everywhere, one in London, and as I recall they set up one in Copenhagen one winter (outdoors) as well.

And for the soundtrack: "The Ice Hotel" - sung by Stacey Kent and written by Kazuro Ishiguro

A photographer I sometimes assist did a very nice story on the Ice Hotel a few years ago.

My gods, have they never done a Hoth suite?

The first thing I thought of when I saw it wasn't Tron, but James Bond.

I had to check out the trivia for Die Another Day to find out whether the ice hotel in the movie was the same one or just inspired by this place (turns out it was just inspired).
