"You wrote a game with Douglas, whereas I wrote a game instead of Douglas."

Following on from yesterday's epic Starship Titanic thread, another treat for fans of Douglas Adams, retrogaming and interactive fiction. In 2004, the BBC's remake of the classic Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy adventure game won a BAFTA Interactive award. To celebrate, we got Steve Meretzky (co-author of the original, creator of many other legendary games and co-star of at least one music video) and Michael Bywater (writer of most of Bureaucracy, Starship Titanic, Magnetic Scrolls's Jinxter and the never-completed Milliways, author, raconteur, pilot, harpsichordist, self-deluded old goat and the real-life inspiration for the character of Dirk Gently) and put them in a room together. This is what happened. (96MB .ogg audio file, mirror of last resort)

This post was deleted for the following reason: this is very cool but you need to put it in the open thread - linking to your own content in any way at all on MeFi is a no-no. -- jessamyn

self-deluded old goat

Hi Yoz! Michael Bywater supervised one of my dissertations (on IF) when I was a student at Cambridge. I can categorically say that if he were in this thread, he would wear that description as a badge of pride :-)
