Why Conservatives Love War

Are conservatives hardwired for violence? Interesting read in the wake of the Tucson shooting.

Despite the tendentious title this is a really thoughtful essay by Corey Robin. He also just published another excellent one on conservatism in Harpers - The Party of Loss (but I couldn't find an ungated version)

This post was deleted for the following reason: the difference between loving war and being hardwired for violence is important. If you want a thoughtfule discussion maybe choose a better title, everyone lulzed all over this one. -- jessamyn

Interesting article - reminds me of a discussion of Cormac McCarthy's politics: "‘There are a lot of people out there - a lot who grew up in the Sixties and are still flower children - who imagine you can just get people to stop being violent... They pretend that the world they live in is that world, but it's not. The world's not like the world they want to live in, and probably never will be."
