I agree with XQUZYPHYR. I expected to get some sort of ironic amusement out of this, but the effects are actually quite innovative and creative. Sure, they'd be better with a bigger budget, but there's a lot more imagination in evidence here than in freakin' Avatar.

I appreciate how much more civil south-Asian Terminators are than their western counterparts. A T-800 will just pull open the door and yell "Get owwwt!" while hijacking your vehicle, whereas a Tamil-speaking model will politely ask "May I come in?" beforehand.

It's usually done in monotone, which works very well for dialogue-heavy movies: "Hello hello pleased to meet you pleased to meet you how are you good please sit down thank you."

I'm pretty sure that the same actress dubbed all the characters for all foreign movies until recently. For the Vietnamese, Bruce Willis, Julia Roberts, Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker sound all like a 30-something woman from Hanoi. To be fair, it's more a voice-over than actual dubbing.

It reminded me of how, in the ancient Dr. Who (with the 15 foot scarf) they would get into an unsolvable problem and K-9 would pull some freaky thing out of his metal butt and fix everything. Apparently this was playing in a local movie theater a few months ago. Now I am sad, for I did not get to see this (and the dance numbers!) on the big screen when I had a chance to do so, probably because Fandango described the movie as follows: A scientist constructs a gifted robot that sets out in the world with amazing results. "Amazing results," indeed.

In contrast with Wikipedia, the IMDb entry for this movie does not list ILM. However, it does list several Indian special effects houses (and a couple of Hong Kong ones). Recall, also, that Kung Fu Hustle had most (all?) of their special effects done in HK. The future is now and it's pretty cool.

I'm getting ready to start up an "awesome foreign movie night" here at my office, and the first films on our list are this and Dhoom 2 -- I always assumed we'd start with Dünyayi Kurtaran Adam (Turkish Star Wars) first, but these two are just amazingly over-the-top. My friends and I were actually pretty humbled by Dhoom and Dhoom 2, we went in expecting ironic "fast and furious / mission impossible / oceans eleven" badness, and instead got a legitimately good action series with well-written characters, incredible stunt work, and some seriously badass music.

I was kind of expecting him to vault off the convertible and use the momentum to kick the police van that he had just launched in the air (and how excellent is a movie that provokes that hypothetical?), but the rest of it was awesome. Also, I'm pretty sure that gold doesn't respond to electromagnetism, but maybe the implication was that the gangsters' bling was gold-coated iron, which is actually pretty amusing.

If you think the clip is awesome, the full movie is nothing short of wonderful. It is rather long but it's more than worth the investment of your time. I'm not a huge fan of Bollywood but the musical numbers (there are several) don't get in the way at all. How many songs about Isaac Asimov do you know? Two enthusiastic thumbs up.
