Ask post: TracFone?
i agree with Jeanne about the terrible customer service and the annoying spam. i bought one a year ago for someone else, and i only hope that i'll finally be dropped off of the mailing lists now that the one-year expiration on the minutes has passed. i was afraid to call the customer service line to get taken off of the mailing list because of all of the trouble i've had with them in the past. customer service may not be important to some, but since we did have quite a few issues when i first... Ask post: Buying patchouli seeds
Kindall's right, Specklet. I was reluctant to mention them by name since I didn't want to call them out for being out of stock. But still, there can't be only one nursery in the whole world that has patchouli seeds, so I asked MeFi.

I've Googled for weeks and that was the only nursery I have found that fit the bill. I was hoping that someone could mention their friendly neighborhood patchouli seed salesman, or something like that.

horsemuth: yeah, I had done some searching under the scientific name too, and at least with that I found a few more resources that sold plants, but not seeds. I was familiar with the Dave's Garden info, and that's where I first found the link to Rich Farm Garden; it's interesting that there are two different listings there now. But I tried calling both of those today and no one answered either one, and one only listed plants -- and not seeds -- on their website. Thanks for... [more]

Ask post: Best cheesburger
None of the other Dallas-area burgers compare to Scotty P.'s in Frisco, Plano, and Allen, TX. Really. And I've eaten a lot of cheeseburgers.

Ask post: Driving to Argentina?
Now about those buddy passes. Anybody know the ins and outs of the airlines????????

re: buddy passes -- they are obviously hard to procure if you don't have a connection, since it's against the rules of probably all airlines for employees to sell them, even though people often do anyway. and because of their inherent value, nobody really gives them away to strangers (especially since they already have 50 gazillion "lost" family members... You could also look at the Gossip Girl books, too. The film version, starring Lindsay Lohan, is due out sometime this year or next.

they'd given me advice on this before, but I actually managed to trade the damn thing in (and I didn't get screwed!) i thought i could get about $1500 for mine too, but then I gave up fantasizing because I needed another car soon.

if you'd be interested in another Mazda, mention it as a trade-in at your Mazda dealership (only AFTER you negotiate your price). I bought a newer model of the same car I had mainly because I knew that no one else but a Dodge dealership would... [more]

icetaco, are you currently attending Bastyr? sorry i didn't understand by the way you stated your comment.

but if you're there, i'm curious to hear more about your experiences. is it a "mecca" only to those who are seeking the degrees, or does it have a high regard in the field as well? i don't mean that to diss your school or anything, don't get me wrong. just wanted to know.

my boyfriend has been looking far and wide for a place... [more]

I'm thinking it's somewhat random. I had mine for less than 24 hours before I got three invites (some of which I paid forward, btw). A friend had an account for quite a few days before I got mine and he still hasn't received any invitations to send out.

After consulting Edmunds and Kelly Blue Book online, I figure that my car would be of some value even without the engine work that it would need. I'm not interested in restoring it for my use (I mentioned being in the market for a new car in an earlier thread), and I wonder if there is a large market for "project cars." Sites that require payment for ads intimidate me because I'm leery of spending bunches of money to advertise a car that ultimately has a worse chance of selling than... [more]

It's a 1997 Plymouth Neon, planetkyoto. I was reluctant to mention that because I didn't want to be brought up in Metatalk and accused of using AskMe to sell my car or anything. Sorry for not giving enough info.

I am 37 years old, and I have never seen someone pick up a guitar at a party and actually entertain the group. Is this just an urban myth, or has anyone actually carried a room before (as opposed to sitting in the corner trying to pick out stairway to heaven).

I've seen it happen plenty of times in person, and I've always wanted to be that guy, except for I can't play guitar. I think the key is to actually be good and not be "picking out" anything.

is that the method that's called the Fax Attack? sounds similar to a method that's supposed to be profiled in the Car Buyer's and Leaser's Negotiating Bible, which another MeFi member recently recommended to me when I asked about this very subject. I was thinking I'd use that method too.

i'm not sure if Dramamine would be a last resort for y'all, but i have this problem too and i discovered that it's the only thing that really worked for me, after changing the lighting and the distance and wearing the armbands that were mentioned in the other thread... and everything else short of tossing the games

then again, i don't mind being limited to the Sims

i also get this way when i sit too close at the movie theater

which subject is he looking for more on... being a teenager? African-American? gay? coming of age?

in case you're looking for all of the above, yesterday i just finished reading a coming-of-age novel about a gay African-American teenager (well, then she got older) called Ain't Gonna Be The Same Fool Twice by April Sinclair. It's more on the chick-lit side of things, but I found it entertaining and the character is easy to relate to.... [more]

I have been downloading ringtones from polyphonicringtonez.com for a few months. It's free, and there are few popups on the site.

It's easiest and most cost-effective to browse the selection from your computer and not from your phone. Then you can browse to the WAP site from your phone. They've got a great selection, too.
