MeTa post: Why deleted?
No, it's someone with a different interpretation of the word, possibly due to not being American on an American dominated site.

I am glad you pointed that out. When he mentioned asking the censors to account for their actions, I immediately thought he was a Ron Paul enthusiast ready to compare the mods to the "MSM".

But he's Australian. Sorry.

MeTa post: This guitar fights flashism
Keep in mind, though, that Woody Guthrie's guitar didn't just fight, it killed.

He also referred to it as a "machine" instead of a "guitar". I say we take away the mp3 link as punishment for misquoting.

MeTa post: Ugh, all RIGHT, mom, I get it.
Because there are people, even after he marked best answer, that are telling the guy to go ahead and fix her computer secretly. Drowning them out seems like an effective way to make sure the guy doesn't change his mind.

I'd rather have them listed from most popular to least, actually. If I were looking for "cars" then I would use ctrl-f to find it on the page. Arranging them alphabetically doesn't offer any useful information.

So, how are we going to tally it?

Each person receives one vote multiplied by the number of favorites they've earned and divided by their user number. These are then summed for each district in order to choose an elector. The elector will represent you at a meet up in August where a scheme is chosen.

MeTa post: Not About Tim Russert
Nothing stops you from adding links and background information in the comments, mediareport.

I agree it would be nice if Metafilter showed restraint and waited for a fleshed out post for any news items (including obit posts). But deleting them until something "good enough" is posted turns the moderators into a panel of judges, which appears to be a job they don't want.

Hmm, anyone who joined May 19, 2008 and is complaining about how we are no longer in the Golden Age of Metafilter is either an old user re-joined, a long time lurker or someone with a really odd sense of history.

MeTa post: MeFi Projects getting public comments
On my recent activity page, the links point to:

Which is missing the "projects" before the ".metafilter"

MeTa post: MehCain.
No, no, you're doing it all wrong. You're supposed to accuse me of being in bed with the GOP political machine and killing the post because it looks bad for Our Candidate.

No kidding. I'm still angry about when you deleted my "Things thinner than Taft" and "Things less bullet-ridden than McKinley" posts.

Is there a big Ted Kennedy Presidential push I'm not aware of, shakespeherian? If a senator falls ill, he can step down or just vote the party line and not cause a huge scene. A president stepping down is a much bigger deal. (Especially if he ends up picking a Romney or Huckabee as his vice president to make the GOP happy.)
posted to MetaTalk by Gary at 2:30 PM on May 17, 2008
In the general election, that doesn't seem so far fetched, shakespherian. I don't think they say "he probably has dementia", but I do think his party affiliation outweighs any potential risk. With the senate so tight, if you're a Democrat you might easily prefer a health risk who will vote for your party than a eager young senator who will keep casting the tie-breaking vote in favor of the Republicans.

So the real place this should come up is in the primaries... [more]

While we're at it, can we add "does not own a television" to the profile page? Then people don't have to mention it in every single post about a tv show?

or, far more damningly, being even less funny than mine.

From Matt's comment it sounded like it was more to do with them being tired, overused one-liners than an individual rating of how funny the jokes are. He hasn't made Statler and Waldorf mods yet.

MeTa post: I flipped a coin and decided to ask this question
Is cortex's plan why the early MeFi posts start at 19, and have lots of convenient holes in between the ids? Is Matt going to silently add a bunch of posts predicting technology trends and a young Illinois senator named Barack he thinks might go far?

Artw is completely wrong. All posters should be given a randomly picked cracked.com link that they must work into their post or else be banned for life.

MeTa post: Should we FPP the Obama speech?
I'd go as far as to say that If he wins the candidacy and goes on to win the presidency this speech will be the moment that he won it

When he wins, you can post it. It would be far more interesting to discuss looking back on it instead of when it's on the CNN, MSNBC, FoxNews (Obama Won't 'Disown' Pastor), digg, and reddit front pages.

Or, instead of fretting about whether you should post it, figure out how to make a decent... [more]

Intelligent Discourse: 3

I'd like to see him given some time off and that wreck of a thread deleted.

Please don't delete the thread. Let it stay there as the recommended open thread when you delete all the other politicsfilter posts for the next 29 days. At that point you may as well leave it open for the PA primary as a catch-all for that.

Yeah, ANYONE could have predicted that some rnadom nutjob would post 70+ times to the thread in what amounts to deliberate sabotage. That's entirely predicatble.

I realize you're being sarcastic, but at this point in the Internet's life it actually is entirely predictable.

There's a sense that if we all try earnestly enough to convince the troll, they made a concede a point or even see the light. But it would be nice if it didn't take seventy posts for the situation to dawn on us -especially when it was pointed out directly.

Yeah, that's probably a biggest part of the problem. It seems like when someone jumps in with the "don't listen to that troll" it only drags the conversation down another level. Now... [more]

(That was phrased poorly. I think both those things only inflame the problem. One is humoring the guy and wasting your time writing long passionate posts when it's clear he's not listening. The other is people wanting to be first to shout "troll, troll!" which derails the discussion further. If you do think he's trolling take it to MetaTalk).
