I'm a children's librarian. Mostly I sneak a peek at the MeFi RSS feeds when I have a spare moment, which probably explains why my post/comment-to-lurk ratio is way down.

I wonder what the MeFi empire's webcomic footprint is
We've also got Nedroid, too.
What's that? You don't know the sixteens different flavors of awesome that is Nedroid? What the hell is the matter with you people?

My Friend's Dull Blog
What's the policy on almost-self-links?
There isn't one, as far as I know. Otherwise I wouldn't have posted it.
Delete it. At this point, you'd be doing us all a favor. Jesus H. Christ, you people...

40 Watt, you've been around a long time- surely you knew this was a bad idea? I would think so, because if you hadn't known it was a bad idea, you probably would have said it was your friend's blog right off the bat.
Didn't think about it, I guess. Maybe I take the posting guidelines too literally. If Mattjessamyncortex wants to delete it, fine.

However I have to agree that getting a MeFi account and posting to Projects would have been a better idea.
I'll suggest that to him. I doubt he'd be interested.
I have to say I resent the implications that I posted this out of some sort of self-promotion or compensation on this guy's part. Like I said in the blue, I know this guy a little, but it's not like we're BFF or anything. Former co-worker from an old job, I liked his... [more]

Benefits mainly include removing the annoying ads and allowing you to store your favorite cities and settings and whatnot. Not really a big deal, but hey, I figured someone could use it.

Well, you know, quonsar... once Dylan went and ruined it with that whole "don't need a Weatherman to know which way the wind blows" thing, it's been downhill all the way.

Fair enough, Steve... I didn't think it would be an unlimited thing like with Gmail invites. However, "Weather Underground reserves the right to cancel or limit the use of this gift membership program at any time." I figure if they have a problem with it, they'll yank it.

Or, alternatively, I guess if time goes on and the little burning itch on the back of my conscience bugs me enough, I'll pull the plug myself. So far I've only gotten less than ten replies... I figure they can handle at least that many.

I did wonder why the sign up includes the line that you agree you are not a former employee of Weather Underground.
Wow... good thing I didn't send one of those to myself. I used to work for the K-12 educational division of WU way, way back in the day. Made hurricane tracking software on those newfangled CD-ROMs! I had similar thoughts about the loss-leader thing- that's what made me decide that it was OK to send out the invites.... [more]

28? Jesus, I'm 31 and now I feel old. I mean, what the hell have I been doing with my life? I mean, I sure as hell didn't make some fancy-pants collaborative blog-type thing before the age of 30.
Man, I suck. Thanks for ruining my day, Matt.

So, what is your job? Are you a baker, candle...
I design user interfaces for video games. It's the least glamorous part of the game development process. I also have a lot of moral/ethical concerns about what I do for a living. I'm not really proud that I worked on Mortal Kombat, for example. In an attempt to turn my karma around I'm studying to be a librarian. (P.S. Jessamyn, why "soon-to-be-out-of-a-"real"-job librarian"?)... [more]

Matt's clearly not being compensated adequately...
I'd gladly pony up some cash to forgo the SG ads. Hell, I'll drop a dime on Matt regardless if the SG stays or goes, although I wouldn't shed a tear if it went away. I missed that donation link in all the time I've been a member, actually. Thanks for pointing it out, crash...
Perhaps Matt could make that donation notice a bit more prominent on the FP, maybe with a nice graphical ad-sized image, say?
I also like the Amazon associate idea. I don't... [more]

Appropriately enough, I paid $40. Although I forgot to add my username to the PayPal invoice, heh..
I'd gladly pay a yearly subscription, myself. I pay more than that yearly for all the dead-tree editions of everything I subscribe to, and much more than that in donations to things like my local NPR and community radio station.

Oh, and what Saucy Intruder said, in all of the above postings. Yeah, yeah, I know it's Matt's site, blah blah skippy blah. It's still a little upsetting. Sorry, Matt, but I Adblocked it on BoingBoing and I'll be Adblocking it here as well. If you wanted a little extra cash I'd be happy to float you a fiver until payday.

I second the Hungry Brain, it's a dive but it's got more class than, say, Jimmy's which veers out of "dive" territory and into "dump" territory. Plus it's real close-like to my office.
I also meekly suggest Four Moon(I think that's the name) on Roscoe, and Ginger's Ale House on Ashland. Anywhere but Hyde Park.
