I have a folder of about two thousand .png files. For each file, I need to (1)create a new folder named the same as the currently selected file(minus the extension), and (2)move the file into its eponymous folder. How can I accomplish this using Applescript?

We've recently moved into a house where the previous owners removed all of the rain gutters from the roof. We've more recently had new gutters installed(bye-bye, tax refund!) except for one particular spot at the corner of a very steep valley where two edges meet. Is there a way to collect water at a spot like this?

All of a sudden my MacOS X User folder is invisible. If I open the "Users" folder in the Finder, it's missing, but if I do an "ls -a" on the /Users dir in the Terminal, or use TinkerTool or Cocktail to make invisible Finder files visible, I can see it. What the hell happened, and how do I fix it?

There's a lot of questions here on AskMe about having fun in Hawaii. Problem is, they all pretty much assume the weather is nice. My parents are in Hawaii right now. It's pouring rain. They're sad. Any rainy-day tips for things to do if you're rained out in Hawaii?

Any Mac web designers used
Rapidweaver or
Freeway Pro? I know how to write valid (X)HTML and CSS, but I'm always looking for ways to save time and I was wondering if these tools actually produce valid, clean, and accessible code as advertised.

Is there any legal reason that a registered trademark symbol (®) HAS to be a capital letter "R" inside a perfect Euclidean circle, even in a typeface that renders other round characters like "O" and "0" otherwise? I'm willing to let the "R" go, but our QA department at my job insists that only a true circle is legal. For examples of fonts that use other-than-round ® signs, see

here, and
here(That last example might be too extreme, admittedly). The USPTO website says nothing about typefaces.

Can you recycle Teflon/nonstick coated cookware? We've just gotten a whole new set of high-quality stainless and we'd like to get rid of our old nonstick stuff, but don't know if it's actually recyclable. What with all the hubbub lately about Teflon doing nasty nasty things, I'd hate to just put it in the trash and have it kill somebody later on.

So we were burglarized sometime today while we were at work. My wife came home and found the front door open and the rooms completely tossed, just like in the movies. In some ways we're counting ourselves lucky, because they only took two cameras, a couple bottles of vodka, and our fire safe. On the other hand, the safe contained basically everything about us- our passports, our Social Security cards, marriage certificate, titles to the condo and car, photocopies of our credit cards(in case the originals were stolen, natch), bank account info, etc. Two questions: 1) are we fucked? 2) burglar alarm systems...yea or nay? What is the source of the sample in
this audio file?(514k MP3 file) I know I've heard the original song before, I just don't know the name of it. The song that this snippet comes from is "Pots and Pans" by Fila Brazillia, but that short vocal loop is something else entirely. Help me ID it!
