Alas, poor Laptop!
Toshiba Satellite A-15? The problem may not be the fan exactly, although cleaning it certainly won't hurt. When I removed the heat sink (the snaky-looking copper thing) from the cpu, I discovered that the thermal paste had been squeezed out.
Radio Shack sells a tube of heat sink compound for $1.99.
If you still think you need a fan, these guys look reliable.

Who will take care of my kid if I go nuts?
Fuck it, I'm coming out of the closet, and my apologies to Matt for making this anonymous in the first place. I need solid advice and I think the answers could help quite a few people in the future.
Suicide is not an issue with me. Hell, I haven't even given up the idea of returning to work someday (although THAT may just be the psychosis talking). My dark place is exhaustion, bone-aching upset-stomach headachy mentally-sluggish easily-startled exhaustion.... [more]

jamjam: No, my ex is still my closest friend. Violence is not in the equation.
paulsc: I'm thinking more along the lines of misdemeanor public nuisance. Las Vegas has more than its share of untreated crazies and I have seen how the cops deal with an otherwise non-threatening public freakout. I don't want a public defender getting anywhere near me if something happens.
This is the problem for me: if I were to simply drop dead, everything is... [more]

Too late for that schroedinger, I spent five days in Romper Room back in '99. Luckily my entire life at that time so fucked up, that know one realized I had taken a little vacation.
One good contact via email: the National Insurance Consumer Hotline, 800 942-4242 seems likely. I will be calling that tomorrow too. (Hopefully)

yup
The parties in the Comfort Inn ballroom were strictly R-rated, but upstairs on the entire floors reserved for the weekend, the rooms were pretty much open door.
No secret meetings, no concealed identities (except at the Halloween parties), no password (just a dues receipt), and like any other party, the fun is what you make of it.

How do I keep my neighbors from stealing my power?
"Neigbors stealing your water and power, squattin' on your stoop, and otherwise living 8 to a bedroom, and the cops and landlord don't care? You probably live in the ghetto."
Don't discount that instead you may be a redneck, especially if those 8 in the bedroom are cousins.
My neighbors are meth-heads (I think). Should I call the DEA?

anonymous really needs to learn how to better frame her questions. This one is so ambiguous, it is meaningless.

Hell, vano, from the sounds of it, she can't even prove the ex posted them in the first place. Plus, the onus will be on her to discover every instance of every picture.

Performance anxiety erection problem.
I have major bad heart disease and drugs were not the answer. What worked for me was exercise, hard vigorous exercise, the kind that forces the heart to grow new cardiovascular arteries. Worked like a charm.
In my book, the erection drugs are too damn dangerous for any male with the possibility of having heart disease, and they should be the solution of last resort.
Note: this does not stop me from making a 500% profit by selling them to the youngsters.

Examples of radioactivity in nature
One of the most radioactively contaminated areas in the US is the swamp surrounding the Savannah River Site in South Carolina. The Cs-137 content is so high that the Department of Energy monitors it by flying a detector-loaded airplane over it. Also, even in the summer, the water can be 10 to 15 degrees warmer than normal.
Although the sample harvests occasionally snare a two-headed frog or a deformed fish, the numbers are not statistically different from fresh water.... [more]

Why did email encryption never catch on?
Extending from what chrismear wrote, it's not invisible to the user.
Address, type message, send; that should be all it takes. Nowadays, the text of a growing percentage of the email I receive is in the subject line. The body is empty, or contains the words, See Subject.
Users can't be bothered and businesses don't see a return on investment.

Soundproofing/patching
Forget the extra concrete; the more density, the greater the sound transmission. A wooden frame built on padding should be sufficient to limit most sound.
Your best bet is to consult with a sound engineer.

Notes on the Underground
Selling out begins the moment you lay your hat on the ground and play for pocket change, pure and simple. Income is income. No amount of rationalization changes that.
If that definition has any leeway, then that lies in even earlier still. The moment you play air guitar in front of a mirror and imagine yourself on a stage, even though you can't play a lick of music on a real guitar, you have already sold out.

"don't be a hypocrite and refuse to call it what it is"
Hold up, ludwig van! Music is performance, and performance is as much image as it is technique and artistry. Image often demands denial.
As you said earlier in a simple yet accurate statement: the important qualification is that selling out isn't an absolute evil. Do you think Billie Holliday put her soul into her every performance of... [more]

Shoot, I forgot the one point I wanted to make about non-musician fans arguing about what is selling out, virtually none of them have a clear understanding of the business of music. They don't realize the need to belong to the musicians union, and they ignore that even bands signed to so-called indie labels have management.
Hell, many chart-topping musicians never learned the reality of the music biz and just a few years later, they were bankrupt.

Finding a roommate on craigslist?
I had a great experience finding a room from craigslist in Atlanta. Start reading from about a week back and bookmark the likely ones. Look for someone about your own age.
Don't ask questions like "the upstairs neighbors, they don't walk around in cowboy boots do they?"
I disagree. That is exactly the type of question you should ask.
