I am looking for a book (or three) that deals exclusively with the career path to executive, preferably with a thorough analysis of middle management. I can find far too many books that are little more than
Managing for Dummies or on the other extreme, CEO biographies, but nothing in between. Thank you in advance for your recommendations.

I want to burn a CD of MP3s that maintains an order other than alphabetized. How can I do that without prepending 01, 02, 03, ... to the filenames? I only have Windows XP. Any freeware apps?

Imagine the worst-case scenario for an unemployed person looking for a new position. OK, my situation is not quite that bad, but almost. I plan to begin interviewing in January 2006 after two years on disability leave. Given the details I describe inside, how I do best use the remainder of 2005 to land the best possible position?

My son wants a PSP. I am leaning in that direction, but for the price, it needs to do more than act as a gaming system. What else can it do, and how well does it perform? Also, what are the best games for it? If you know, how does it compare to Nintendo DS or Game Boy Advanced? Thanks!

Where is the ultimate video game arcade in the United States? I want to take my 12-yo son on a fun vacation that he has most decidedly earned, and I need ideas. He does not like rollercoasters or other amusement park rides, but he does like experiential movie theatres like IMAX, 3-D and the like.

After consulting with my cardiologist, I have the green light to push myself to my limits so long as I use a heartrate monitor and follow a graph. He suggested that I hire a personal trainer. However, except for my 12-week vacation at Parris Island when I was 20, I have no experience whatsoever with health clubs/gyms or hiring such a fitness expert. How do I start? And, what should I watch out for?

Firefox: How do I get it to simply save jpg's already downloaded, rather than downloading them again after hitting Save? Fetching the big APOD pic twice does not make much sense, especially on a dial-up. PS: The Firefox Help is almost useless. I am beginning to have my doubts about the utility of this browser over IE.

PhysicsFilter: Some years ago, I heard of an undergraduate curriculum that introduced physics at the quantum level using linear algebra and that did not reach classical mechanics until late in the second semester. From an educational perspective, this method is supposedly more intuitive. What textbooks employ this teaching method?

Catch 22: I am applying to Social Security for disability. I need my birth certificate. To get my birth certificate from Pennsylvania, I need a valid government-issued ID bearing my current address (driver's license). To change my driver's license to my current address in South Carolina, I need my birth certificate (implemented 6/04 due to Patriot Act).
Has anyone run into this and figured out how to break the loop? I have already called Social Security, SC DMV and PA Vital Records AND talked to supervisors. Is my congressman next?

I am the proud new owner of an ICD (implanted cardiac defibrillator). Google turns up a rather grim future for me devoid of major electrical devices. However, does anyone else here have one or know someone who does, and what has been your or their real-life experiences regarding EMI fields?
I ask because my current job is maintaining industrial robots, and I doubt the doc is going to allow me to return to work in any capacity when I see him again for the follow-up. BTW, I have had the thing for less than 48 hours and that sucker has already fired once. I don't think it was its full rating of 30 joules, but damn!!!

A friend found a position to which she wants to apply in the newspaper. The ad lists a fax number, but the number is wrong and calls someone's residence. I tried all the various combinations of area codes and exchanges and went through the yellow pages, seeking similar phone numbers. None of that worked. So, I believe the fault is in the last 4 digits, which are 3652. I tried 3852 and 3682.
Since the paper's ad department will not be open until tomorrow and I believe my friend will score big points with the employer if we can crack this mystery and have her fax sitting there first thing Monday morning, do any of you have some ideas?

OK, guys, the smartass has been humbled. Last weekend I experienced what should have been a mildly stressful event for the average person. However, I have fairly advanced heart disease, and the anxiety put me in the emergency room with chest pains and arrhythmia despite my normal meds and my emergency tranquilizers.
The time has come for me to seriously consider disability, as totally distasteful as I find that. Does anyone know of some objective information sites, particularly regarding how to document my condition, beyond the basic primers that Google coughs up? ( Yes, I am pursuing this through my doctor, but I want a 'second opinion'. ;-P )
