Which episodes are on which DVD?

I watch most of my TeeVee on Netflix. Is there a site somewhere which indicate which episodes are on which DVD in the series?

Rotting fences make bad neighbors

I am shoring up a sagging fence that I will help replace in a year. The original posts are not in cement and are rotting at the base. I'm trying to figure out how to attach some support posts.

open source powerpoint tips?

I saw a presentation given with Apple's Keynote in which the text that accompanied each slide was not shown on the overhead projector, but was visible on the laptop used by the presenter. How do I do that? And bonus points if you can tell me how to do that with open office, a pdf file, or some other non-keynote piece of software.

Smoking Gun scoops the L.A. Times

Then again, maybe Puff Daddy wasn't involved in the shooting of Tupac.
It looks like the L.A. Times' March 17th story drew upon forged FBI reports created with a prison typewriter by James Sabatino. The Times is now conducting an internal review.

The hidden haberdashery of secretly tall pants.

I am 6'7 and bought a pair of brown Wranglers that were 34 inches long, but they fit. They fell apart in the wash. Please recommend pants that run long, i.e. they may say they're 34" but I can get away with wearing them.

It's been 24 years. I give up.

My geometry teacher in high school in 1984 showed us this puzzle. I was only half paying attention, but I believe the goal was to draw a line that intersected each segment only once.

Steve Jobs is holding my pictures for ransom.

I have a bunch of pictures in Iphoto on my mac. Unfortunately, Iphoto uses a really wacky file structure. How do I get the photos out of itunes and sort them into folders labeled by date without including all the weird little dupes and thumbnails that Iphoto generates?

Refusing to sign a speeding citation in Vernal, Utah? That's a tasing. Requesting an investigation of the incident? That sounds like a job for YouTube.

Leopard is a virus. That you pay for.

I tried to install Leopard on my macbook, which is less than a year old. I got a kernel error, so I ran FSCK twice until no errors were showing up. I still get the blinking question mark, twice, then a normal boot sequence. Is this a software problem caused by Leopard (a friend's machine had the same response), a failing hard drive, or something else?

Cheap hackable cell phone?

It occurred to me that I could probably find a used cell phone cheap that would be more useful and fun than my aging mono palm, and sync with my mac. I am looking for recommendations for phones in the $50 range (on ebay) that take adequate pictures and can perhaps play fun little Java games. I don't plan to use the actual phone to make calls, I just want a cheap calendar/camera/game doohickey.

free music for kids?

game authoring software for young kids?

My son, who is 10, has been asking me all kinds of questions about creating mods for existing games and writing his own games. I am not a programmer, but I did show him kid's programming language and we're trying to figure it out. Any recommendations for either simple, fun game creation languages or packages that will run on our aging pIII windows machine? There's a lot out there, and I just don't know where to start.

I've lost my light installing mojo.

We decided to replace an ugly old chandelier today. After turning off the breaker and taking off the chandelier, I noticed there are black, red, white and green wires. The house is circa 1968. From what I can tell there used to be a fan/light. So I hooked up our flourescent dome by matching the wire colors and capping the red wire. Unfortunately, it didn't work.

Underneath my linoleum--a secret treasure! (question about subflooring)

We are going to install about 200 sq. ft. of laminate flooring in our kitchen/dining area, which is 1/2 linoleum and 1/2 ugly blue carpet. Because the previous owners installed 1/4" subflooring before they put in the original vinyl, there is a height difference between the carpeted area and the vinyl floor area. Should I rip out the old subflooring to level it out, or add subflooring to the recessed area so everything is level? There is *really* old linoleum underneath the carpet and the subflooring.

Utah's Fiery Furnace of Hell Needs a Circuit Breaker

My wife changed the filter on our gas furnace yesterday, and now it doesn't work. I pulled off the front cover and on the upper right is a small black pressure switch of sorts. I originally thought it was supposed to be held shut by the cover, but that is not the case, as they don't match up.

upgrading laserjet ram?

Does anyone know how to put more memory in an HP Laserjet 4700? There is an access panel on the rear right-hand side, and four screws holding in two slot covers labeled EIO, I believe. I downloaded the service manuals but nothing in there I could use. I can pay someone to do a service call but it seems like it should be something I could do myself.

ruby/python database tutorial?

I'm searching for a simple ruby/python database application tutorial. A long time ago, like six years ago, I came across this simple tutorial for php/mysql that showed you, from the ground up, how to put a simple database of your video collection online. Is there a similar tutorial that emphasizes creating a simple front-end for a mysql database using ruby or python, geared toward n00bs?

When not even duct tape will work

I'm leaving on a long road trip and my muffler is loose and rattling, because a friend installed a trailer hitch and had to remove one of the brackets. I've wired it together, but the wire came loose, and I am trying to figure out a fast and easy way to hold this in place for the trip so the rattling doesn't drive me insane.

Compulsory PHP instruction

I've received a $1000 grant that I can use to learn PHP, in order to eventually write an education-specific application. I could attend a programming boot camp this Summer, take an online course, or blow it all on books and software. Of course, I have a bunch of php/mysql books already. Has anyone gone to one of those programming boot camps, and was it worth it?
