MeTa post: Metafilter gets a little love.
The complete synchronization between live Dooce and blog Dooce was awesome.

"It's a sticky question: where does the line of propriety fall..."

What is this "line of propriety" that you speak of, and when did Matthowie add this feature?

MeTa post: LOLMORMONS
I, for one, agree that the level of nastiness in an obituary thread for a Mormon church leader was well above and beyond. But then, why did we even have an obit thread about a Mormon church leader? --Wendell

There are over eleven million mormons worldwide.

I would guestimate that 40 percent of the US LDS population is actively engaged in the church, so the number drops way down to 2.25 million in the US, which undercuts my earlier argument. But that is neither here nor there, as the Westboro Baptist Church plans to express their legitimate feelings at the funeral. So now you don't have to!

Mormons do define themselves as Christians
That's a relatively recent change.

Look, here is Joseph Smith claiming to have seen Christ and God in 1830: First Vision.

And yes, I know there are at least nine different versions of his account, and that this is the homogenized one.

If by "Christian" you mean, "hangs out with the baptists and protestants and has the same conception... [more]

Hey, I learned something about how members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints get defined as Christian or not in this thread. That was instructive. Seriously.

I think it would be perfectly appropriate, as long as it was accompanied by interviews with Al Gore and other Democrat leaders from about 1998 where he said we needed to invade Iraq. ("Regime change" in Iraq was formal policy of the Clinton administration at the time.)

Good point.

I'd like to see the Gore video too. Anyway, the link is in the Bushco thread about three times, so never mind.

Maybe MeFi needs a small, trusted group of folks with access to the remote reboot shiny candylike button thingy.

Anyone see that twilight zone episode where a mysterious stranger hands a couple this box with a button on top, and says, "the moment you push this button, a complete stranger dies, and you receive one million dollars."

I think of that whenever I shop at Walmart.

Open minded people can be so self-righteous. The original poster is at work with kids, and it's not just a question of his/her prudery, but of getting backlash from The Man. So, in my opinion, what they are really saying is, "I share the same Mefi addiction that you all have, but I get freaked out by the occasional racy image."

Ha! The first time my wife and I saw one of these at a friend's house, we snickered and thought it was the lamest thing ever. Four kids later, and a bazillion diapers later, and I'm like, "screw the environment, gimme the genie." For those who don't know, it's a little baggie dispenser that seals off each fetid diaper so it doesn't stink up the whole house.

The problem with getting a new account is that, if you are essentially pathetic and want to brag about how long you have been on metafilter, you have to start over with the new name. Also, it's hard to keep track of two accounts and then people mock you for double-dipping. Most of these problems could be solved, at least in my case, by actually getting a life.

I find myself going to Boing a lot less, mostly due to its pornification. Basically, it's embarassing to have a coworker or family member walk by and see weird fetish crap all over the screen. The hide option is nice, but I often work in a lab setting with frozen machines that don't retain settings.

I'd like to see a meta-ask.metafilter that links to "frequently asked questions". Essentially they are:

1. How do I steal stuff?
2. Does this look infected to you?
3. Is there a good CMS system out there?
4. How do I score with the babes?

And let me pre-emptively apologize for having posted questions in the above categories.
