Let's sing!
Woohoo!
Okay, okay, I won't be moving to the Bay area until September-ish (or, if not September, December), but I'm a confirmed soprano and would -love- to come and join once I'm in the area! I would totally take a roadtrip out that way until then, but alas, I don't think my work/travel schedule will allow it.
I'm so jealous!
This brings back all my warm-fuzzy choir-singing memories from ye olde days of being in choirs since I was 8 or 9 years old... awwww.

Say! How about a Los Angeles meetup?
Oooh. I'm down south-way until the 17th... admittedly, I'm in the Inland Empire, but had planned to make a trek to L.A. at some point this week anyway. Perhaps I'll get up the courage to come join y'all (if I figure out how to get there, where to park safely, et cetera...).
Fun!

60, 000!
when I joined, people still knew where my handle came from.
I'm sad now.
Also, 14k'ers, suck it. 10k is the new 1k.

Welcome. How'd you find us?
caddis, not me. It's something I ponder occasionally, wondering exactly how I got here sometime in late 1999 or early 2000, lurking and lurking until I decided in August 2001 to join (before I knew that having a lower usernumber would confer such uber status, alas!). I wish I knew. But that, along with how I discovered MUDs and the ancient (and now defunct) holonet.org and its IRC channel 11+ years ago all elude me. Ah well.

Another ask site
Dude... I had no idea who Clinton Kelly was, other than knowing that I had a high school classmate of the same name. Being nearly 24, I freaked out a little, thinking that all of my former classmates are going on to do fabulous things while I sit here, poor and degree-less. It was a relief to find out that the Clinton Kelly referenced is, in fact, 38, and not 24.

Ladies! Gentlemen! Children of all ages!
Is the 26th still on? 'cause I'm not -entirely- sure I could make it, but would definitely want to. Should I bring chips? Cookies? Tasers to keep the ninja-children off of me? (Kidding. I think.) Do we have a list of folk planning on coming?

loquacious, you bastard. You know how much I wanted to be a good stalker for you, how hard I tried, my sleepless nights tracing in vain your whereabouts. And I'm not. I'm a -terrible- stalker, and we both knew it, but now you've gone and let all of Mefi know, and they're going to laugh at me forever and ever. I hope you're happy!

What exactly are the standards for scammy crap on askme?
If someone is on foodstamps, yes, $28 is a big deal... but apparently not a big enough deal to prevent the poster paying it anyway.
When I was denied foodstamps (because of being in school. I was told I needed to have a job at least 20 hours a week to be eligible. I said, wtf? If I was working 20 hours a week, I wouldn't ephing well need foodstamps, would I?), there would've been no way in hell I would've even considered buying something as... [more]

po, at some point I really want to hear your life story, somehow. 100+ hour workweeks? Food stamps? Living in a barn? Your life sounds quite interesting.

I'm going to take this as a sign that I've been too self-aggrandizing (and unsolicitedly forthcoming) in my postings. ;)
Perhaps some day I'll wake up and answer somebody's AskMe with my entire history, and then post a MeTa railing against... [more]

Too much hate, too much judgment
Jealousy breeds judgment. There are many of us who wish we could have been hospitalized for exhaustion. We are jealous of those of you who have slightly less strong constitutions and actually show physical signs of exhaustion, i.e. passing out, etc. sufficient to merit hospitalization.
In our eyes, being hospitalized for exhaustion is akin to a free (you obviously have insurance - anyone who was uninsured and asking to be... [more]

(okay, so a note after going back to the question - I hadn't read Orb's post before... I don't really classify "exhaustion" in with "being sick as a dog." If you're sick and the run-down state of your body makes it worse, that's not exhaustion. That's a virus with a very very easy host. Different. Also, admittable-to-hospital-without-insurance.
Also, I want to say that I don't harbor any hate toward anyone this is directed at, and... [more]

po: why would you want to be jealous of someone who spends all their time drugged up on IV, in pain, having constant nausea, and feeling like they've been run over a truck a million times?

I'd prefer that, sometimes.

Actually, after thinking it over in the shower, I realize that perhaps part of our ingrained loathing toward the idea of treating exhaustion in a hospital is the idea itself.
To say that exhaustion can be "cured" is kind of a slap in the face to those who endure it day-in, day-out for years on end with little or no relief.
And I realize I've posted -far- too many times in this thread.
I'm going to pull out now,... [more]

Wrong. It's totally possible to overthink a plate of beans.
Now out-thinking that plate of beans, that's a whole 'nother plate of beans . . .

Okay, so this isn't really anything of huge importance. Just a lament that so much of our FPP content lately seems to be made up of video. The links above are simply those from today. I realize it's a valid media, just as any other internet content. It simply makes me wonder - am I the only MeFite left without broadband, and thus left in the dark on (seemingly) half the MetaFilter FPPs unless I want to spend 6+ hours downloading?
Perhaps we've... [more]

(Actually, aberrant, I'm in Lincoln. I say Sacramento because it's more easily recognizable to most folk, but I'm about 35 minutes' drive away from the freeway, and 45 from the city. Broadband of any sort is unavailable to me, sadly, as I live in... a barn.

I have to go with eilatan on this . . . I'd been hanging around here, reading and enjoying MeFi, for at least a year, before finally realizing that . . . whoa! Once in a while *I* might have something to say! And I'd have to . . . what? Register? To post comments? Oh my.
And while I do agree that far too many of the newer users are mistreating the privileges of MeFi usership, I can't support a system that would exclude only newer people. Now, if we could somehow... [more]
