Tell me what to bring.
there is a little place to eat (its more like a convenience store that also serves food) off Southard and Duval called Romeo's (well at least it was there 5 years ago). Go there in the morning when it quiet, and get the bacon egg and cheese on the fresh cuban bread. Sit out on the porch and just enjoy the morning.

High-quality bulk tea: where, oh where, can I find thee?
I get alot of my tea from Teavana. I have been very happy with their teas ( I am a BIG Darjeeling fan). It makes me happy (and more broke) now they opened a shop just down the road from my house.
On aside, one thing I picked up from there was one of the teamakers that you put on top of the cup. I was leery at first but damn that makes some good tea.

Help me procure a Ruff Ruffman shirt!
I beg to differ on the ink jet iron ons. I have made tees for my 4 1/2 year old daughter, my 2 year old son and myself since she was very little.
Use the Avery ones, wash them inside out and they last surprisingly well.
The only thing you have to watch out for is making sure that if you are going to use it on a colored tee that the colors in the iron on "work" for the color of the tee shirt. You will be golden if you use light grey or white though.

Why are transfers to my external firewire drive so slow?
What you may want to do as well is reformat the drive to HFS+. Most new drives I Have found come preformatted as FAT32 and definately slows things down IMHO.

But I know I personally have seen at least 3 of those particular drives crap out. I would be very leery of any of those WD drives.

Need some advice for flying with 2 toddlers
"Renting them from the car rental company is fairly pricey, but you can usually buy cheap booster/car seats for $20 each or so at Wal-Mart. You might purchase them on the ground if you can -- that's a valuable $40 worth of stress reduction."
This was our plan on the booster seats for when we get to Naples (our final destination). Unfortunately we have to have both of them in car seats for the flight as well (my daughter is a shrimp and... [more]

year end bonus protocol
domino:
it was listed on my final paycheck of the year (issued on 12/31/07) as a fringe benefit (1732.54) and then later on the same stub there is a adjustment to net pay for a "non-cash fringe benefit" for $1600. So I think they payed the taxes on it for me, and then i just make up the difference.
Either way i got a new laptop. w00t.

I want to roam free from my desk.
I know personally, I dont think I will ever get another desktop for myself (family is another issue) I am always a little worried of theft (knock on wood) or dropage (esp with a 4 year old and a 20 month old).
There is a great freedom with being able to have it with you where ever you go, but if you asked my wife she would say I am always on my computer.
I am like you in terms of app use and as long as you have enough RAM you should be fine.

Synthesizer Patel
I had a imac g4 logic board that someone spilled coke (cola) on, what we did was removed everything we could from it, took a low flat dish, added water and Efferdent (yes the same stuff people use for dentures) let it sit in that over night. let it dry out for about a week, put it back together and it has been running flawlessly for almost a year now. but of course, YMMV.

Agree with everyone..back up back up back up! And It does sound like a bad HD. but one thing (and I know I will be the bad guy here) but the $350 doesnt sound too off.
A little high, but not too bad. If it is 12" PB thats about right (those things are a big ole pain in the ass to work on) but if its a 15 or 17" then, maybe 250-300 (thats about what I would charge), esp if you take it to a local shop. They have to make some money too.

Dead power source? And is it fixable?
it definately sounds like a bad DC-In board, go find a local AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider), if they know what they are doing they should dignose it pretty quick. The part is cheap, < $50, labor shouldnt be too bad (it isnt too hard for them to do, no more then 1hr). the reason i recommend a local shop is they tend to do more out of warranty work and know what they are doing and also because 95% of the bozos who work at the apple stores are....well lets just say they arent the sharpest...
