On
July 5, 1816, the passengers and crew of the shipwrecked French
frigate Méduse abandoned 147 people on
a makeshift raft in a gale off the coast of Africa. When the raft was found 13 days later only 15 people were still alive. The incident inspired Théodore Géricault's painting
Le Radeau de la Méduse (
The Raft of the Medusa).

"I messed up. I owe everyone an explanation." Netflix has
lost 26% of its value after
raising prices and splitting their DVD and streaming services (
previously); they'll lose lose 600,000 subscribers by September 30 instead of gaining the 400,000 they predicted. Now Netflix is spinning off their DVD-by-mail service into a separate web site, Qwikster.

The Case of the Vanishing Blonde After a woman living in a hotel in Florida was raped, viciously beaten, and left for dead near the Everglades in 2005, the police investigation quickly went cold. But when the victim sued the Airport Regency, the hotel’s private detective, Ken Brennan, became obsessed with the case: how had the 21-year-old blonde disappeared from her room, unseen by security cameras? The author follows Brennan’s trail as the P.I. worked a chilling hunch that would lead him to other states, other crimes, and a man nobody else suspected.
