It's like a second chance to avoid opening your mouth and removing all doubt.
Call it an "I regret the error" button. Or maybe "I offer a complete and utter retraction. The imputation was totally without basis in fact, and was in no way fair comment, and was motivated purely by malice, and I deeply regret any distress that my comments may have caused you, or your family, and I hereby undertake not to repeat any such slander at any time in the future."

What more was there to say?
latching on to the slavery part of the fight was a great move and got everyone galvanized against the south (rightly so), but it wasn't the only thing being fought aboutOur new Government is founded upon exactly the opposite ideas; its foundations are laid, its cornerstone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery, subordination to the superior race, is his natural and moral condition. -- Confederate Vice President Alexander... What say ye of the edit window?
We put in an edit feature on SportsFilter several years ago, and it works fine without people abusing it. Sure, a couple of jokers messed around when the first launched the feature, but self-policing nipped that in the bud. You only had about 30 seconds to a minute to make edits, which was fine for fixing typos or broken links but discouraged wholesale revisions.
I think links in the comments should be checked that URLs are present (and possibly checked to see if they work).

When?
mathowie is a huge Smiths fan, especially of their song "Ask" ("ask me ask me ask me/ask me ask me ask me").

@please @make @it @stop!
In an earlier thread about exactly this, it was pointed out that talking 'at' someone is pretty rude, while addressing them conversationally is generally more accepted.

Misogyny? Come on.
this month alone i found out that all the BeeGees and James Lipton have apparently enjoyed long relationships with women
James Lipton's been married since 1970.
By the way, I much prefer the photo caption writer's description ('curvaceous behind') to 'flabby ass'.
Is "badonkadonk" not the correct term?
My only point of reference for The... [more]

May I remind you that the first rule of Fight Club is that you do not talk about fight club and the the second rule of Fight Club is that you do not talk about fight club.
And you certainly don't MetaTalk about fight club.

New MeFi Static Domain
I've been running the plain white theme so long now that it took me a minute to remember that mefi has colored pages.
Dude, "colored" is not the preferred nomenclature. Chromatic-American, please.

Palmer v. Jones
To be fair, it's hard to tell where the rug ends and the Reynolds begins, so the true level of nakedness is up for debate.
Especially since there are at least two rugs in that photo.

Clarification on reasons to delete answers
A direct answer to a binary question is not sufficient regardless of logic / semantics. Clarification is required to be a helpful answer.
I was a Flower of the mountain yes when I put the rose in my hair like the Andalusian girls used or shall I wear a red yes and how he kissed me under the Moorish wall and I thought well as well him as another and then I asked him with my eyes to ask again yes and then he asked me would I yes to say yes my mountain... pre-empting Obamaveepfilter
Obama/Baby Mama '08
would be an excellent Nick Nolte to Obama's Eddie Murphy
Sounds good, as long as it's 48 Hours Nolte/Murphy, not Another 48 Hours.

What gives?
Elizabeth Dole, Senator Dole's Second Wife and Ex-Mistress
I've been comparing Senator McCain's run to BobDole's 1996 run: two candidates with distinguished carreers who I admire even though are politics are different who sold out the principles that made them admirable in one last desperate grab at the presidency. So that plus the whole marry-the-mistress thing is two things they have in common.

Double bad.
I'll bet you could code up something to do that whenever you delete a post.
Or just display the example.com URL instead of the submitted one if the post has been deleted.

Can't tell who said what
I put quotes in q or blockquote tags. Then I put italics inside the q tags because the MetaFilter style sheet doesn't make them italic and stupid Internet Explorer doesn't add quotation marks.

OMGOMGOMG?
Deleting a post because it appeared on Talking Points Memo, or any other site, is a bad reason for deleting it. It's either a good post or a bad post. (This particular one is an update of a year-old list, so it's bad.)
I also don't like the snarky deletion explanations.
