MeFi post: Appendicitis In Popular Culture
MarshallPoe: From what I've figured out, MedPedia will require editors to be registered MDs/PhD's. Non us riff-raff mixing up RNA and DNA anymore.

I can only imagine that the words "I read on WebMd..." send chills of fear into doctors everywhere.

Hey, that once helped House solve a medical mystery. If it worked with such a l33t doctor, surely it must work otherwise.

MeFi post: The Breakfast Manifesto
I have to agree with Flippant here, most people have never actually tasted a good cup of coffee, black.

Up until junior year of college, I did not drink coffee. At all. I hated it. Then, I made the mistake of taking a 9:05am class when I got off work around 1am and finally gave into. There's a Jittery Joe's right in the student center where my class was, so I got a cup of coffee one morning when I couldn't take it anymore. It... [more]

And there ya go with the recipe for sbux success. Every store you go to, the coffee should taste identical. Market it as l33t coffee and voila.

At some point during the 21-day program, Busey's altercations with the rest of the cast became so intense, he and another celebrity rehabber had to be physically separated. Press materials released by VH1 have been careful to stipulate that Busey was not on the show as a patient, but as a rehabbed substance... [more]

MeFi post: Religious Groups' Official Positions on Same-Sex Marriage
The fact that these outfits feel they have to have a "position" on gay marriage, even if positive, is pretty sick in my mind.

We could easily the same regarding people- even if it's a positive one.

Twenty-five years from now when opposing gay marriage is viewed in the same light that we view opposing interracial marriage now, the organized religions that are still around are going to feel pretty stupid.... [more]

Which, if you believe in the separation of church & state, is pretty damn offensive.

But a lot of people don't believe in separation as such. Regarding "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion," it's seen as strictly such and passing a law banning gay marriage is not an establishment of religion since there is nothing in the law about religion. Plus, they're not banning being gay- they can still do it in their... [more]

Sweden just passed a law(?) this past week as well, regarding all traffic voice and data, didn't they?

Pretty much. It's to allow tapping of all cross-border e-mails, phone calls and text messages:

The new law, set to take effect on Jan. 1, 2009, will enable the military National Defense Radio Establishment (FRA) to monitor Swedes' Internet usage as well as content from e-mails, phone calls and text messages.... [more]

Uh, yea, software "glitching" (a claim I find dubious. I think the Revision3 guy was just being diplomatic) should not be any defense. If anything, it could have easily been planned.
"Hey, I got an idea! Instead of doing a direct DOS, let's set up a connection to their servers so a DOS will be initiated when they do x, y, and z. That way we can claim it was a glitch!"

I don't get this either. I used to run a lot; I had a really bad hip muscle injury in high school the one time I didn't stretch beforehand. It could have been coincidence, but it convinced this single data point.

Isn't part of the Catholic philosophy that beliefs can adapt and change over time when the Vatican sees fit to change them? I'm a little confused by using old Papal statements to disprove new ones.

IIRC, it's Second Vatican II that they rejected and thus any Papal successor is not legitimate. With the main problem being that cancer cells turn off that switch, which is why reactivating the mighty mitochondria works is some cases and has potential to do bigger and better things. And I didn't know that drug had no patent so it should be available cheaply. Sweet.

Humph, the drama geeks I know tend to be the smartest and most active in school activities. Lack of social skills is not something I recognize as being caused as drama departments- if anything, it's the reverse. Obviously, YMMV.
