Can we get a policy regarding the ads on Metafilter?
If you tell me the domain on the ad, I can block it and there won't be any more pro-life product ads.
Does this mean if there's pro-choice ad sites, I can request for those to be blocked, too? Or any political add I disagree with?

Looks like it. And why not? mathowie doesn't have to grant your request.
Agreed. However, my point was more that while it sounds like mathowie's going to grant the initial request, I have to wonder if the same request would be granted from the reverse position, particularly on an issue like abortion?

Dave, please, that line completely misses the point. This is about website policy (which I know I don't have any real say over regardless of what goes on here, but discussing policies is what MeTa's for), not ways to get around advertising.

Actually, I like A+Brandon's columns. Instead of a completely new column for each letter, just start at the next row

Why the gender discrepancy?
While I think both of the posts should have stayed or been nuked, Pastabagel and Deathalicious are dead on, IMHO. Rightly or wrongly, how a potentially chat-filter question is framed has seemed to dictate whether it's deleted in the past.
I seem to even recall one of the mods saying the same thing over a chatfilter callout in the past.

I used to look at Jobs all the time, but I grew discouraged because almost every single job title has acronyms in it that I don't even recognize.
That's kinda' how I feel about your username.

Color coded usernames
How about each post assigns a randomly-generated number to a user throughout the post. That way, we never base comments on user personalities- only their written word!

I agree that metafilter could use a little iphone usability updating
There are other, more popular smartphones out there yet...And previously when mobile.metafilter.com was updated for the iPhone, it was unusable for a WM phone browser. iPhone-specific does not always rock.

That's interesting reasoning. Metafilter should drop Firefox support, too. Only a tiny minority of the browser market in the US actually uses Firefox. Microsoft Ueber Alles!
Are you serious? FF/IE is a completely different issue than the smartphone browsers. Most websites work perfectly fine under both browsers (including mefi!), and if need-be, I have IE right there. The cellphone browser situation is a completely different landscape, where some... [more]

Should or shouldn't
Instead of opening a new page when you click on comments, the page should just expand to show all the comments. It's annoying having to open a new window/link just to see some stoopid comments. I'm pretty sure what those 93% would want.

And, why should I care? It's not like this is going to weaken my faith. And I don't see it casting any more doubt on those who don't believe.
I'm not the one supposedly blaspheming. It's someone else, and that's between them and God, not between you; God; and myself.

I have to disagree with the claims that this is a troll. Like some others, I grew up in an environment with the hard-core conservatives and his post sounds exactly like something they'd do. Methodology, and in particular the reasoning. Maybe that does make the OP a brilliant troll. Either way, the sad truth is that, if anything, childhood friends who were that hardcore only get more intense as they get older. And not to say he shouldn't be rightly ridiculed, but the... [more]

Ok, seriously, how does a person help someone like Butho?
I'm sure my experience will be different than others, but mine is with mission trip groups (not the "CONVERT TO CHRISTIANITY" style, but rather just to help out in the area). I've been on a few trips myself to Mexico where people donated clothes and non-perishable goods for us to distribute to the people, of which 100% was given out while we were there. I totally know where... [more]

People Agree with My political Opinions = Level of Discourse Good.
People Disagree with My political Opinions = Level of Discourse BAAAD.
Bullshit. Circle-jerking easily can and do lead to bad levels of discourse. And it is not differences in opinion that lead to bad discourse- it is how people disagree and respond to those disagreements.

Yelling "bullshit" at the start of every post also raises the level discourse significantly.
I was attempting to respond to my own failing at recognizing sarcasm with my version of sarcasm, and failed miserably again. I never have been able to do it anyways.

A thoughtful introspection equating neoconservatism to Nazism from someone who's obviously not "own of their own" anymore? I'm not a neoconservative, but I wouldn't take too kindly to my political leanings being compared to Nazism no less than liberals get in a huff over being labeled as commies.
