Mefi Scholarship?
A reminder. One of the coolest things about metafilter.

Why does
this question lose all formatting even though it is formatted in my RSS reader? Doesn't appear to have happened to other questions nearby.

This might be a better suggestion for the upcoming Travel site, but is it appropriate to suggest to people before they post looking for things to do in a new city, that they:
A) Tell us as much about themselves as possible,
B) Have perused all the previous threads relating to that city? (more inside)

Jessamyn,
this comment needs to be deleted. I had flagged it earlier and was surprised that, instead of being deleted, a SPOILER warning had been placed in the thread title. There is no reason for spoilers to be in the thread. The OP is not asking about the movie - they are asking about places to discuss movies.

So I have this friend in Lisbon and she was telling me last night that Miguel Cardoso was on TV and she caught it on her videophone and emailed it to me and I uploaded it to YouTube and....well...
Here it is!

Reading Comprehension 101: I'll admit that glueschk was a little
over-the-top here but I come here not to damn him but to...empathize with him.
His comment was followed up by yet another person mentioning Marathon Man. Meanwhile,
in this thread, I was making a bet with myself to see how many comments until we got Nixon and Elvis.
The answer is 15. I'm trying to understand why this happens. Is the poster not being clear enough?

Using Camino on OS X, I get the Apache startup page ("Test page for Apache Installation" is the Title) when I try to go to ask.metafilter.com. I can't reproduce it on either Safari or Firefox on my machine, only Camino.

Now that we have all these nifty subsites, how about a new one, devoted entirely to meetups of mefi folks? (meetup.metafilter.com?)
The current solution, having them
mixed in with callouts, bugs and general griping is (I think) insufficient. Many people who would be interested, don't even
know they exist. They scroll off the page fast, and organizing
is a painful process.

In this
projects post, josephtate claims to work at Grupthink. Thats fine. But then in
this metafilter post, the poster
rabble lists josephtate as "co-worker". Someone can check my math, but doesnt that make it a self-link?

Why is
this link going through hedonistica? I guess I'm just suspicious when someone makes a first post after quickly making 5 content-less comments...

I read
this as question for help on legal matters (I know...thats a separate topic) but people seem to be interpreting it as a morality question with statements such as
"Why do you think a person with such low ethical standards would make for a positive contributor to the US " - and its starting to derail the thread.

LazyFilter: I think Ask.Me is most helpful when people get questions answered that are difficult to answer elsewhere, or after having done some research on their own. I'm not a particular fan of "Inspired by this other ask question..." as if we need to brianstorm questions.
The latest egregious example is
this thread which coming a mere 11 minutes after
this other thread, I can only assume the poster's thought process was "Hmmm...thats slightly puzzling! Let me hit the Ask-a-Question button!" instead of say, doing some research on style manuals first and/or
uncovering this previous thread on the exact same question. Do some research first, people!

I know that in the past, we've developed a kind of awareness that links to op-ed pieces and links to a thin AP or Reuters notice do not make for the best of the posts. To that end, I think Science posts,
such as this one, have gotten an undeserved free pass. New Scientist is, well, a rag, which posts sensationalist, unsubstantiated stories with rarely any references or contexts to back them up. Or, to be more succinct:
New Scientist posts suck.

"Bullshit, and fuck you for assuming that." -- I've observed that without further insight into the poster behind relationship questions, most people will naturally make their own assumptions and bring their own personal experiences to bear. If you're going to put yourself "out there" like this (and I question whether this is a good use of Ask Metafilter since these questions have no real "right" answer) then you also need to be a bit more patient with those who respond -or, don't respond at all.

Metafilter fascism: Please click on the link at least once *before* filling up the thread with stupid comments. In this case, the poster (matteo) merely quotes pieces of a work of
fiction before delmoi and TargetPractice jump in with knees in full-jerk mode.

Matt, that jewelboxing ad on the front page makes my browser hang (Safari.) When can I start paying you to not see any ads on Metafilter?

The future of the Internet? If your posted site is getting mefi'ed, you might consider also providing a link from
Coral. Coral is a p2p network that replicates content across participating servers.
Heres metafilter through Coral.

SmallRequestFilter! The trend in Ask.Metafilter toward beginning posts with "XYZFilter!" is, I realized, an example of a feature added by users on their own. This way of starting posts is useful since it creates context immediately ("This post is about Cats!") and also self-categorizes. Why not formalize this so that when you create an ask.mefi post it asks you for a free-form category (e.g. cats). Then your post would look like this:
Cats: So, yesterday my cat fuzzy started doing something really strange....
And thus no more need for BlahBlahFilters.

The Media will be inundated (if it isn't already) with retrospectives on Reagan. I don't need Metafilter front
