How to feign security in 93 easy pages
John Cole wondered why "this story is getting nowhere near the press that the WH party-crashers story has".
If the leaked manual comes with a totally hot blond woman than I'll pay just as much attention.

Best Friends for Sixty Years and Counting
I'm usually pretty gullible when it comes to these borderline "Is it real - Is it fake?" blogs. Even I had red flags going up when reading this. Can't put my finger on it, just a hunch.

But at least you are presenting some evidence other than "my mefi-sense is tingling".
Oh please. We sort of pride ourselves around here on being able to sniff this shit out even if there's no obvious evidence to the contrary. And if the "mefi-sense" is wrong, so be it. You found yourself a fun blog to read.

"Are we having fun yet?"
Written by The Last Unabashed Hunter S. Thompson Imitator, I see.
My thoughts exactly.
On top of that, I have a distaste for anyone trying to romanticize drug usage but I guess it's OK because its New York and the characters use colorful language and have colorful names.

Don't be dissing Dr. Thompson like that. This guy is a hack. Hack is whack."

Eroge for All Seasons
Interesting post indeed. Since I'm at work, I won't go within 10 feet of these links. Hell, I was afraid to click on [more inside]. I'll check it out later though.

That settles it. I'm posting my depression videos toot suite.

Ever dream THIS MAN?
"The true problem is that street cultures are the true research and development units of post-fordist Capitalism. A unit to which, however, no economical counterpart is recognized."
Translation: I'm surely a fucking hoot at parties. Sort of a "Debbie Downer" with labia/scrotum piercings and scorchingly bad B.O.

Is it really a lazy hate, Shepherd? Or is it just good old-fashioned anger at people who make their living off of messing with people's heads to sell shit? I have no doubt about the skills of all involved. Some pretty damn amazing stuff can be produced by viral/ad people.
However, I hate feeling tricked; as if I couldn't evaluate a service and/or product and come to my own conclusions. I find it pretty damned offensive but not nearly as offensive as treating advertising... [more]

somebody might be doing this because they think it's neat and cool and haven't really thought through the consequences.
That line describes nearly my entire philosophy on software development which would explain why I no longer do it. hehehe.
Shepard, I really appreciate your input in this thread. Unless....it was a viral ad... Was it?
Seriously though. Thanks. Some very good stuff.

Loopy Boopy
You should see the doll house that goes with these; a partially burned cardboard box stained with urine and gasoline.

This painting is filled with shit strained through a mesh screen made of Ron Jeremy's back hair. Fuck this painting.

The "symbolism" here is about as subtle as the fake right-wing political cartoons in The Onion. The difference is that The Onion's artist does it on purpose.
Yep. Makes Herblock's stuff look like Dali.

Thanks for the link empath. I've been looking for stuff like this for my daughter. Also, thanks memebake. That looks awesome too.

KFC Double Down
The Double Down did to my gastrointestinal system what Sherman did to the South, leaving a scorched-earth trail of destruction in its wake.
Jeez. Shit it out and man up. Have we evolved with digestive systems made of paper mache' only fit for miso soup? I could eat three of these things and go on a 10K run.

Douchebaggery
I was hoping to dear god that this blight on our collective souls wouldn't end up here but what the hell.
That was pure WWF drama only the acting was shittier. Have fun searching for the video on MTV's site and getting assaulted with an ad for Sonic burgers. I'm gonna go to bed now and pray that the music business gets sucked into a worm hole.

Urinal Protocol Vulnerability
If I'm the first in, I go to the furthest urinal/stall. Hell, I'll crawl up in the ceiling tiles and piss just to get away from some of you pigs (and by 'pigs' I mean the farters, the scratchers, the mumblers, the "I'm having fake sex with the wall" -ers).
Speaking of stalls, I am reminded of people who are able to defy the laws of physics and shit UNDER the seat. I have yet to see a statistical model or algorithm that can explain that.

ServSci: "So, the two questions are why do we spit in the urinal, and has anyone else noticed that everyone does this?"
Why, I haven't the slightest idea. This doesn't bother me as much as guys who do it while at a stop light. I'll see them literally open the car door, peer at the ground and hock a loogie. I always wonder what the fuck was so damn horrible in their mouth that they had to stop right there and get it out of their mouth... [more]

Ikea de-Futurafies
Futura has slightly longer vertical bits at the top.
SOMEONE MUST HANG!
I really don't get how people could be distraught over a font change. It's not like I woke up confused, read the catalog and went "I think it's IKEA but I can't be too sure because of these weirdly shaped letters..." Maybe I'm not seeing another side to this and would gladly encourage enlightenment from some of the designers among us.

Thumbs Up, not Bottoms Up
The Straightener: "The courts just sort of play the averages and figure if someone isn't an alcoholic, they'll still benefit from A.A. and if they are, well there you go.
Many courts have stopped mandating attendance at 12 Step meetings. "
Unfortunately that hasn't stopped in Chicago. There is a meeting down on the south side that actually puts these men/woman in a separate "newcomer"... [more]

Not to quibble, DDA but there are quite a few Atheist and Agnostic A.A. meetings. Ironic, I know but I always find them much more fruitful than the more traditional ones. I don't think the underlying religious dogma will ever leave A.A. It's just a holdover from the old Oxford groups that predated A.A.
I agree wholeheartedly with you on healthy skepticism. I was one of those who felt that A.A. was the One True Way to sobriety. Even as a CDC I tended to preach the company... [more]
