The Secret History of the Muppets
Actually, Steve Whitmire (voice of Rizzo the Rat and Beaker, among others) does the voice of Kermit now. I think his first movie was the Muppet Christmas Carol. He's gotten better with time, but it's still not the same.
That being said, I'm not sure that the Disney takeover was the greatest idea, even if Jim Henson was in talks to have Disney buy the property even before he died.

Masonic Art
deafmute, in addition to Job's Daughters, there's also The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, and Demolay (for the young man interested in Masonry).
I was a member of Rainbow for 9 years. My grandparents started the local chapter in my hometown. I'll probably be the last one in my family to have Masonic ties, as I haven't felt like joining Eastern Star, and my fiancé hasn't mentioned any interest in joining the Masons.... [more]

This community really does have a hardon for Bush. It's kinda pathetic. Make it stop.
I live in Kenton, which is about 20 mins. away from Forest. All of the surrounding towns (including mine) are very very conservative. *Cue the Lee Greenwood songs and ClearChannel Bush tributes here*.
I'm trying to track down the picture of the charred steeple in our local newspaper, but the online archives don't seem to have it.... [more]

Claes Oldenburg
I had the opportunity to see an exhibit on his works in Washington D.C. in eighth grade. I think my favorite piece was the Swiss Army Knife boat, which folded and unfolded on the hour.

I'm seriously considering (or rather, have already decided) to drop out of my current college after 4 years because I'm burnt out. I was in the top of my class in high school, but have a 2.0 in college and am having difficulty keeping my focus. I'm thinking that taking time off, working, and transferring to a different school might get me on the right track.
My dad has told me that he will pay for school as long as I don't take more than 6 years, but I feel like all I'm... [more]

Holy Crap. A post on MeFi about a politician that lives in the town where I happen to go to school. Who would have thought? Athens makes it to the big time.
*sigh*
While I understand (and even agree with) many of the points the writers of the Town Crier put forth, I also tire of hearing the same complaints day in and day out. "OU is evil. OU is sucking away our democracy. OU should leave Athens in peace. OU *is* Athens. OU is destroying our... [more]

See, this is why I'm planning on homeschooling my children. That, or placing them in charter schools. Litigation and paranoia have begun to run rampant, and common sense is flying out the window. Let's ask the art department if the school has X-acto knives for projects? Scalpels for biology class disection? These can just as easily be stolen/hidden and used as weapons. Hell, even boxcutters in the staff office.........
Pah. This whole thing makes me sick. Give your... [more]

My friends and I have had a perpetual booth at the Union Street Cafe ever since I was a freshman. On Thursday nights, there are anywhere from 7-10 of us clustered around a table, drinking the 99 cent neverending cup of coffee, talking about pop culture and bullshitting, and enjoying breakfast omelettes at 12 in the morning. Some of my most precious memories come from late night discussions at that restaurant. I swear, before I graduate, one of those coffee cups will be mine.

Jammer-- if you're so proud to be an American, why are you using pretentious Anglo slang?

I'm trolling. Flame on, as Johnny Blaze would say.
I've never been so ashamed to be American. The comments being made here on a day when we should be respecting the dead and thankful for the freedom those people bought for us are sickening. While I respect the freedom of speech for those comments, I wish some people could get out of their box. Or, at the very least, read the poem, be confused, and blow it off without feeling the need to ridicule the poster for a... [more]

Nevertheless, I was cheering when I finally saw it.

Delmoi, whether it be from being obese and dying from heart disease, or being overly thin and dying from an eating disorder, it's still dying. And it's something that needs to be remedied. Calling someone emaciated or a FAT ASS does nothing to solve the problem.
Calista looks unhealthy. Granted, it may be bad lighting, something she did in the picture, or just a factor of her "high metabolism," but if it isn't, she desperately needs to get help.... [more]

The thing I miss most about Lego is the fact that they used to be cheap. I remember getting a kit every Christmas. Now I look at the $99 prices, beg and plead with my parents to buy me the Millennium Falcon (I'm 20!) and they look at me and laugh.
I can barely afford what they call the "small" kits. Lego has gotten out of hand. These "models" aren't for the imagination. They're for looking at and collecting dust.

Yay! Talking Teddy!
Even if Brian Aldiss said the movie was too highbrow for most Americans, I liked it. Played the online marketing game for a while too.
I agree, Gray. It had better say that line.
And I think Teddy Ruxpin's sidekick was Grubby. I don't remember offhand.

I'm really hoping that this gets taken care of soon. I'm sure a lot of recording companies, not to mention artists, are going to be mightily angry that their songs are being "banned". Music is the one thing I have that isn't being turned into propaganda (the current Live song and Lee Greenwood not withstanding) and it pains me to think I'll never hear these songs on the radio again.
