Ask post: Tailors in SEA
I also came in here to suggest Hoi An or Bangkok. Hot An is a town of tailors. And besides, it's got great food and scenery to boot.

Ask post: How do I scare off cats without scaring off cats?
Try spraying urine from a predator, such as a Fox, along the boundary between properties. I had great success keeping cats off of our roof (a gravel roof on top of a building in San Francisco) by using fox urine. You can get it at hardware stores, hunting supply stores, etc. Google turns up this site that seems to be exclusively dedicated to, well, predator pee.

Also, looking at that site, it appears that if you spray mountain lion or bobcat urine, that might just draw all the cats in the neighborhood to it. I don't know if it has to be canine urine, but as I said, fox urine stopped the cats from coming to our roof (and pooping there). We sprayed it all around the perimeter and the night-time roof-pooping dropped to zero.

Ask post: Need help sorting files in iTunes in ways the program doesn't offer
There are a few Applescripts to help with this. Doug's Applescripts is always a great place to look to extend itunes functionality (on preview: ditto yesno).

For dupes, try Corral iTunes Dupes or the corral all dupes script below it. Both work a lot better than the iTunes commands.

For the latter, there's an easier way, which is also to use a script: Not in Any... [more]

Ask post: Make me immortal!
I was also going to suggest naming a star after yourself. Another option? Save some redwoods for future generations. It costs 25 grand, but you can pay over three years. When there are none of these trees left outside of parks your immortality is secure.

Ask post: Lo-Fi Indie Folk recommendations
Lots of bands I would have mentioned are listed here. But to find new stuff, I've been reading Uncommon Folk a lot lately. A great audioblog with consistantly good material that's new to me.

The credibility issue is why I wasn't wanting to turn to Drudge. But I just discovered Slate's going to publish them as well. Thanks.

Ask post: I've used both digital and analog (cassette tape)...
I've used both digital and analog (cassette tape) audio recorders with a radio shack connector identical to the one linked above. It has worked extremely well for five or so years.

Something to consider: with adapters from Griffin or Belkin you can use an iPod as a voice recorder (I do). You'll need yet another adapter for a straight up mini jack connection (as the above from Radio shack uses) which would bring you up to three total. BUT, if you're using it for... [more]

Thanks for the ideas. Please keep them coming. Also, I'd really appreciate specifics (for example, where in Estonia?).

Thanks a million

i'm confused about wanting culture and rural

Andrew: Yeah, I see what you mean.

To clarify, when I say "culture," I don't mean necessarily a country's intellectual/artistic achievements. I live in a big city, and have travelled fairly extensively. I've seen plenty of museums, cathedrals, architecture, etc around Europe & Asia. While I usually find those achievements interesting and enlightening, I typically find... [more]

I spent about 6 months in SE Asia last year, most of that time in Thailand. The Gulf Islands, all of them, tend to be overcrowded party scenes. The islands on the Andaman Coast are simply amazing. Phuket is most definitely not the place for you if you want to leave the crowds behind.

(warning: self links to follow)

My favorite island for pure isolation and chill factor was Koh Chang, but not the Koh Chang near the Cambodian border, the one near... [more]
