MeFi post: It takes a village
Wow, I would have enjoyed these pictures quite a bit more without the commentary.

The idea that homeless people are somehow of a better nature than the non-homeless is ridiculous:

These women are trying to get the stray cat to take some water. [...] How often do you see people doing selfless acts? In our metropolitan society people mind their own business, but on State Street, a small village within the city, folks care about each other.... [more]

MeFi post: A Good Year for the Roses
Anybody else notice the article's repeated weird, heavy-handed references to the fact that the husband is jewish?

if you say wiggers like Eminem have an American accent.

I think you'd be hard-pressed to find an American who says Eminem doesn't have an American accent.

MeFi post: Mmm ... pelletized nutritionally complete food.
Does this make anyone else wonder how well monkeys and dogs like eating the same thing every day? Do they not care? And if so, why not?

MeFi post: A Chauncy for our times
I didn't think the real Guy Kewney was an ignoramus after watching the BBC clip, but I sure did after I read his article where he repeatedly calls the cabbie who did better in a tight spot than most of us an ignoramus. Bleh. The guy didn't understand what he was getting into, and he got out of it as graciously as possible given the circumstances. For Kewney to call him an idiot is terrible.

MeFi post: FreakyFace
I had double vision similar to that picture for about 6 weeks; though for me, the top version of things was rotated to the left about 20 degrees also.

The interesting thing is, while it was rather annoying seeing everything that way, it was *especially* disturbing to look at peoples faces when I was seeing double. Not sure why. I definitely avoided looking at people, because there was something really horrific about seeing their faces double.... [more]

MeFi post: Always the last one left in the box and now...
I was actually suprised to hear how poorly powdered donughts sell... Are not powdered doughnut holes the only kind of doughnut holes worth eating? They were one of my favorite snacks as a child... They went really well with a Pepsi.

M'kay, it does make me sick to think of eating that now. But for pure sugar buzz, I'm not sure how that can be beat.

MeFi post: The Supreme Court of Illinois threw out a traffic...
hmm... I grew up very near Davenport and Rock Island, and I can say for sure... These places are very very close to each other, the residents of one place will have almost certainly visited the other more times than one could count. Most people on either side of the river comply with the laws on the other side, or they don't go over. If he knew the laws, and chose not to comply, he should have stayed out of IL.

This isn't the same to me as an out-of-state driver from... [more]
