Wales and sports. I'd not put the two together, being from across the Atlantic. But, as we approach next weekend's
Mountain Bike Bog Snorkeling Championship, I'm amazed the sport isn't better known in the States. Though, after reading about it from the
2000 Woman's champion, I think I'd rather participate in their
horse racing marathon (there's a big bonus for crossing the finish before the horse) or bikeless
bog snorkeling events. What sporting events are there where you're from that haven't yet gotten the world wide audience they deserve?

When I think of Seekers,
I think of people on a path to enlightenment, and not the group led by Joshua Armstrong. Despite their good intentions, I can't help but think about
this movie while reading about them. There's a lot of
variation amongst the states regarding licensing and oversight of private bail enforcers.
Should there be federal laws involving bounty hunters? The
last effort to do so seems to have gone nowhere. But,
this family seems to think so, and they are doing something about it.

Science doesn't always take place in labs, and scientists aren't always the right folks to turn to for answers. Sometimes you just have to ask a
lobsterman. [more inside]

Education and prevention are responsibilities of businesses also.
The private sector can help take part in HIV/AIDS education and prevention, and should institute workplace policies. Has your workplace instituted a training program for managers and supervisors, implemented an aids policy, performed education on prevention, and reviewed the requirements that it needs to follow under disabilities acts and leave policies?

What Now?
is a question answered by a number of a number of scientists and science writers at Edge.org, which asked them to point their vision towards the world to come.
Bruce Sterling assesses the probability of certain outcomes of strife between America and the Middle East.
Richard Dawkins writes about what we stand to lose if we are faced with a new Dark age.
Freeman Dyson offers chilling thoughts regarding his memories of joy while listening to the bombing of London as a teenager in London in 1940. Amongst those, and many other answers are statements
focusing on education, decentralization of resources, the power of consumerism, and a number of technological and social solutions. While it is important to look backwards for reasons, it's just as important to look forward. What will the future bring, and how can we act to shape that future?

W3C and Fee-based Standards for the Web
The last call review period is over today. If you have an opinion that needs to be heard by the W3C, get it to them now. At last check, they had received
396 comments. What's your take on the proposed policy change? Will the W3C survive?
