I need to download a digital version of a road map (think AAA), at a fairly high resolution. Would be really nice if it (a) didn't have any text or (b) was in a vector format (Illustrator, Freehand, etc.) where I could delete/turn off the text.

My laptop recently died, and I need to replace it. I'm thinking of getting the cheapest macbook or an equivalently priced Dell or Lenovo. Help me figure out which.

Code-switching while coding: if you speak more than one language and are a programmer or a web-developer, do you write code in one or the other or both?

I have a gorgeous cast-iron mortar and pestle, that I use a lot for cooking. Unfortunately, it has some rust, especially on the bottom, probably from when it's washed and left to dry still slightly wet on its bottom.
How should I:
a) get rid of the present rust.
b) avoid future rust.

Resolver One looks and feels like an Excel clone, except that it stores all the data and formulas as a
Python program. You can add more code, or export the whole thing.
It's in public beta now, and the commercial release will be free for open source and personal projects.

I've noticed a weird variation on the I-don't-know-the-answer-but-here's-a-wild-guess syndrome on AskMe: in "help me translate this" questions, people who quite clearly don't speak the target language still offer their awkward, ungrammatical or just-plain-wrong translations.

Sharkrunners game , players control their ships, but
the sharks are controlled by real-world white sharks with GPS units attached to their fins (...) every shark that players encounter corresponds to a real shark in the real world.

If you asked a question on AskMe a while ago and got not-so-good* answers, would it be bad form to ask the same question again? Should it be disguised so as to not seem to be the same question?

Few books have given me as much sheer joy as Bringhurst's "The Elements of Typographic Style". Tufte's "Visual Explanations" is also up there in terms of content and presentation. What other exceedingly well researched, written and designed non-fiction books would you recommend for somebody interested in Design, Architecture, Programming, Information Visualization, Maps, Math, Music and Science?

I am finishing work on a short python program for my master's thesis. I am a newbie at python, and would like to ask for help optimizing the program in AskMe, by posting the actual script and having people with more experience give it a look. 2 questions:
1) does this sound too do-my-homework-ish?
2) the program is about 130 lines, would it be kosher to post the whole thing inside the question (not on the front page, obviously)? Or should I just link to the .py file on a server?

I have been tasked with creating a virtual walkthrough of an existing space, using some sort of 360º panoramas, with zooming, maybe audio.
I am of familiar with QTVR and, VRML, and have heard of X3D, but wonder what the state of the art is for this kind of thing.

Given a three dimensional triangular mesh M, composed of irregularly sized triangles, is there a program, plugin
1 or algorithm that will create a new mesh M' with the same overall shape as M but with regularly sized triangles (i.e.:all triangles having similar sizes)?
1: For 3dsMax, Rhino, etc.
