Doing a test run, the first number is the zoom level, and second the x coordinate and the 3rd the y coordinate, so 0-0-0.jpg is the whole map at thumbnail size, 1-0-0.jpg is the top left corner at the first zoom in level, etc.

Spelling it out for you: you make no actual argument, just say "these people agree with me" (that's the appeal to authority part), and the people who apparently agree with you are 'most public space advocates' (that's the weak part).

1) They choose some arbitrary time (10 am PCT) instead of Midnight UTC, for example.
2) They don't mention this before the actual date.
2) They fail to explain any of this on their website.

It works like this: I'm in Chile, and a professor at the largest University here, so yes, I have access to a library system. However, said library system doesn't have as many English language technical and S.F. books as I require. Plus, some books you need to own, not just borrow.

This reminds me somehow of those people who stand in front of abstract paintings and loudly proclaim what they 'see' in them.
To me the problem is not 2d->3d (there is Cubist sculpture after all), but rather the idea that the original painting is an incomplete window onto some other form (in this case, a three dimensional form) and that this animation somehow rescues or reveals this.

It provides the unusual opportunity to view the painting from a unique perspective, revealing aspects that would normally stay hidden from the casual viewer.
This is what I have a problem wiuth (both explicitly here and implicitly in the animation itself), the conceit that the animator is 'revealing' things that where hidden, and somehow giving 'the casual viewer' a greater insight in to the painting.
