I've noticed a weird variation on the I-don't-know-the-answer-but-here's-a-wild-guess syndrome on AskMe: in "help me translate this" questions, people who quite clearly don't speak the target language still offer their awkward, ungrammatical or just-plain-wrong translations.

If you asked a question on AskMe a while ago and got not-so-good* answers, would it be bad form to ask the same question again? Should it be disguised so as to not seem to be the same question?
* to put it politely.

I am finishing work on a short python program for my master's thesis. I am a newbie at python, and would like to ask for help optimizing the program in AskMe, by posting the actual script and having people with more experience give it a look. 2 questions:
1) does this sound too do-my-homework-ish?
2) the program is about 130 lines, would it be kosher to post the whole thing inside the question (not on the front page, obviously)? Or should I just link to the .py file on a server?

Adding unsolicited, uninformed
"via"s to other people's posts is the height of rudeness. And usually not even accurate.

I have an extra invite to OiNK. As I orignally was invited to the site by a kind hearted mefite, I thought of offering it to the community. Is this appropriate?

For this easter
(or whenever matt has the time), I would like a bright, shiny MeFi API.
I know it's been discussed
previously, but I still think it is a cool idea.
We're falling behind on the Web2.0 bandwagon, before you know it it'll be 3.0 and we'll look like suckers.

Whenever I try to make a post to a thread in the Blue, I get " Error Executing Database Query.
Invalid data contribute,post_comment_preview.cfm for CFSQLTYPE CF_SQL_INTEGER." and c.
Other people make posts, so I suppose there's some prob with my account, perhaps?

Mayor Curley takes a
perfectly innocuous, neutral question which was getting some interesting responses and turns it into a NYC vs Boston grudge match. AskMe is not the proper venue for resolving your petty vendettas and urban insecurities. That's what the blue is for.

AskMe policy proposal: "Please answer the actual question, not what you think should have been the question".
For instance
here, crunchland seems to think the question is "what's a good approach to picking colors", whereas namespan is saying "fireworks used to have a feature, now it doesn't, what can I do". This happens all the time. People ask how to fix something on a computer running System A, and the answer is switch to System B. People ask about Anti-virus apps, and are told not to use them and just practice safe-computing. It's a small peeve, but the added noise is not appreciated, especially when you actually care about the answers.

I was able to log in, however, via Metatalk.

RSS feed request: having recently set up the RSS feed plugin in Trillian, it has come to my attention that many people set titles which rather than being descriptive of their threads are just little comments. For example: "Yikes", "Listen Closely", etc.
Please, I'm begging you, use descriptive titles for your posts.

In response to email-harvesters, how about implementing
this as an invisiible link on each metafilter page. It generates an unlimited stream of bogus email addresses, thereby poluting the email list. Spam the spammers!

Sean Meade posts a
FPP without any links, but summarizes an article he read.
The reaction is less than enthusiastic. Sean Meade takes
offense. Can I post a summary of a conversation I had the other day?

Is it alright to post sites that aren't in English? I know many MeFites speak other languages, and don't see why it should be limited to English-language sites.

Help: can anybody point me to the thread where they discussed various image-search engines better than google's? I think the original post was about one that used some sort of fuzzy logic system instead of just keywords.

Html question: how does Matt get the top table to extend all the way to the top, left and right, with no space? How does he get the Meta-logo and Community 'blog graphics to sit flush with the edges of the page?
Whenever I try something like that, there's always space between the edge of the page and the table and between the edge of the table and the images.
