MeFi post: The Best Music of 2007 According to
Fimoculous collects the noteworthy lists (and does a wonderful job not only with music lists but filtering all 2007 lists), Largehearted Boy (my blog) lists all the list I find online (noteworthy and otherwise).

Don't forget Chromewaves, which, along with StG, is my favorite music blog site (along with my own, the aforementined Largehearted Boy).

MeFi post: Free Music!
I'm just sharing the love with the list...

It was a tough call, but I almost included The Witness Exchange on the list... I'm a regular reader of 3hive as well, I may have to do a list of numbers as well sometime.

Marquis... there couldn't be a list of online music without Said the Gramophone, it's an institution!

MeFi post: ListFilter
My favorite album list was topped by Janna Newsom's The Milk-Eyed Mender... fascinating music in a year filled with interesting releases.

He was a true champion of good music. John Peel introduced me to too many bands to mention, I'll miss him greatly.

MeFi post: MP3 Blog Roundup
Lacunae is my recent favorite, and Lotsofco and Chromewaves, though not mp3 blogs specifically, post a couple of interesting tunes a week that are worth checking out.

These were the guys who started Epitonic, then sold to a larger entity.

Check out insound for some great legal indie mp3's as well.

That site is invaluable to the GbV fan. The amount of work that went into it is astounding, many kudos to Jeff.

I've seen people use this before for other charitable groups, inserting the charity's code in their links and gateways. This is unique, though.

Plus, Nipsey was a car hop at The Varsity in Atlanta, serving the masses "allaway" dogs and Varsity Oranges at the world's largest drive-in restaurant, which adds immensely to his cool factor.

MeFi post: Born Again Liberal!
Unfortunately, the statewide referendum (to be held September 9th) is polling about twenty points short of passing, and shows no sign of gaining positive momentum. At the bare minimum, Riley has broached the subject of tax reform statewide, and provided a better alternative than his predecessor's ill-fated lottery referendum to cure the state's financial woes.

MeFi post: Where exactly does he get all that urine anyway?
We had a drug-testing firm locally that used Calvin peeing in a specimen jar as their logo, even placing a large sign on the major highway through the city. I never heard why, but they did change the logo after about six months.

Actually, all 67 counties' machines are not tested and tallied in the same place. Several counties (the bigger ones) own their own machines and maintain and program them. The others are leased by Election Systems & Software, which has an office in Birmingham (where I worked for five years, in charge of programming election machines for Alabama and elsewhere). Every county tallies their votes in their county seat by consolidating the data from each individual voting machine.... [more]

This news really saddened me, even though I've known it in the back of my head for a long time. Just last month we went to the Orange Twin Festival, and saw the Gerbils, Elf Power, and Masters of the Hemisphere, among others.

By the way, check out the Orange Twin Conservation Community, a pedestrian village near Athens, Georgia partly organized by E6'ers.... [more]

I trade mix CD's, roughly every month, with a makeshift bunch of music lovers, some found through , Burn, Baby, Burn, some friends, and some online acquaintances. I am exposed to many musical genres and styles this way, and I get to promote the indie music I love.

I also listen to several music streams, especially No Love For Ned, Left Of The Dial, and Power Pop Radio.

Lately my best source of new music has been the Postal Blowfish mailing list... [more]

When I was in college, I worked at the Georgia Tech architecture library. Easy work (it was pretty small), and I delved into architecture and landscape design books, so now I can amaze folks with useless facts about Frederick Law Olmstead and Philip Johnson, among others.

In Philly we had Dr. Shock.

This summer my brother and I took our kids to the old neighborhoods this summer, and at Pat's Steaks there was an autographed photo of Dr. Shock eating a cheese wit' that brought back many great memories of youth.

Don't forget the power of Oprah, she has elevated Maya beyond merely bestseller and into the mythdom of soothsayer.

I'm not too upset, though, because Oprah has raised awareness of authors I respect as well, like Ellen Gilchrist.
