Chicago Meetup
I can possibly make it.
Of note is that SantaCon Chicago is having a planning meeting Wednesday, October 15 at Rossi's on State.
Don't know if any of you are interested, but it's one of the more freaky things I do every year.

Wellllll... I'm more of a Stanta Rampage type of guy, rather than a SantaCon participant. Something about being on a bicycle and being able to escape quickly just appeals to me more...
But I mean, people do both, and I might this year...

Chicago Meetup: the Bloody Return of Eamondaly
Wait wait wait...
We're sticking to the Billy Goat, because it's familiar. But we're moving it to the Billy Goat on S. Wells?
And it's on a Thursday?
What type of Bizarro-World Meetup is this?

I have a strict policy of not commenting in my own callouts, but for the snake of clarification I'll respond here:
- I have indeed read one too many of these types of questions. I believe that it is common guy problem in that it's often hard for men, particularly single men, to just be friends with women. While at the same time I find it amusingly frequent that women, even single ones, seem to have no difficulty with such platonic relationships. Further, these types... [more]

wfrgms, it would be nice if you made more of an effort to reign in your snark next time.
Yes, yes, many things would be nice.
Snark has its place, and overly sensitive Mefis would do well to remember that. As I pointed out above, I feel that sometimes snark can provide clarity. In my case, I don't even know if my comment was that snarky in the traditional sense. Vulgar, crass, obnoxious, sure - but with the precisely the... [more]

No, seriously, I don't think I'll be able to make it tonight. But I hope everyone has fun and is painfully hung over in the morning.

Honestly the meetups at the Billy Goat have been working pretty good so far. It's a central location with lots of public transport options and taxi service. It's cheap with ample seating and it has the type of seedy ambiance that a lot of us go for... Also, a lot of the MeFis seem to live and work nearby so turn outs are usually good. It seems like the things that prevent us from getting there are individualist rather than related to the location.
As for Evanston - I... [more]

How about that crummy little bar in Central Union Station? The Snuggery?
I mean, if you're going to go the Billy Goat, go to the original. If you need something close to the Wells St. Billy Goat, maybe something like that would work?
Hey the name is right and it's as least as safe as Rossi's.

Oh, I've had a metafilter attack before. I made one self-link, for which I apologized, I didn't know it was against the rules, and I got viciously and savagely attacked. I was a newbie then to blogs, so I used my real name. Instead of telling me I violated their rules, or even blocking my username, they "Google-bombed" me. Using my real name and saying that I was a child molester and rapist. Yes,... [more]

Everybody in Tidewater say "Ho-ohhh"
I lived in Norfolk (on Colley Ave in Ghent) from about 2000 to '03. I really liked that town a lot. Sorry I can't be there to hang, but I'm glad to see there are some MeFis there now.
Is Colley Cantina still around? They had these bizzareo huge quesadillas that I really miss. Ohhh... and the Norva. Ah... Good times. That town is a hidden gem.
