Reassuring news about you, piratebowling. Let's hope the situation returns to some sense of normal very soon.

Overeager moderation?
Perhaps we just need a list of subjects that konolia is allowed to post about freely without anybody getting themselves all riled up about her being either a.) a horrible anti-gay bigot who should go die in a fire or b.) a stupid believer in magical invisible sky pixies. Puppies, rainbows, the price of tea in western Albuquerque grocery stores, maybe?
If we're not going to limit her that way and yet want to say that she's fair game for any opinion she posts that can be... [more]

But we are limiting her, through the moderators. They've said as much.
And she's living up to those limits and it's still not enough for her detractors, so something has to give, doesn't it?

Shooty McGunpants
Whether or not plaidrabbit was going to use bullets is irrelevant. Unless you have some evidence that he is a psychopath or criminal, then his ability to carry a gun, concealed or otherwise, is not in any way the danger that you're making it out to be, certainly not to the "public health." To have jumped in with your arm-waving, hand-wringing anti-gun spiel in a place where it was specifically requested that such digressions not occur was out of place, and Jessamyn was right to pull... shelleycat, I have in my archives an e-mail reply sent to you within 5 hours with regard to the about the security issue, caused by a problematic robots.txt which coincided with a spidering, and I worked quite diligently to remove the index and passworded the surveys. But you know, let's don't let the chance to be sensationalist get in the way of the facts.

After the robots.txt incident, the native passwording of WordPress was put into play, and will be used from here on out with everything on that side of the site. (It was actually the post-swap surveys that weren't adequately protected, not the original information that included names, e-mail addresses and mailing addresses.) The extra layer of hassle involved* is worth it to protect everyone's privacy. No one was as mortified by what occurred than I.... [more]

Also, my e-mail is borked. Every time I try to send something, GMail falls over and dies, so if you're waiting to hear from me about something, please, please try to hit me up via IM, "mefiswaphelp" on both Yahoo IM and GTalk.

Also, one more time, I haven't reinstalled a forum because the forums were an iffy extension to things in the past and represented another parcel of work, so when my phpBB install got hacked to hell, I ditched it. Forums aren't coming back for this swap session but I'll add a question about a forum in the survey and if there's a majority interest, I'll create something.

Now that we've finally been able to make a meetup happen (after what, a half dozen prior, fizzled attempts?) perhaps we can start making this a periodic kind of thing.

Davehat, you can have your CDs sent to anywhere or anyone. The swap is international, so your mixes could ostensibly go to a Kenyan PO box, but anything that you arrange that you feel is reliable is fine fine, be that a third person relay or an APO address or whatever.

Following last year's amazing outpouring of generosity to my friend Karen and her family, who lost their home and all of their belongings in a fire, Karen and her family have undertaken some kindness of their own.
With Karen coordinating and her three kids doing a lot of legwork (especially for the little ones) they went around their community and in concert with a community group, the local library and several churches, they have collected clothing, linens and household... [more]

1. Per the news item posted on Monday night, every registered user should have received e-mail on Monday night, either confirming the activation of their account or with questions regarding their account which need to be answered before activation can take place. If you didn't get an e-mail, you aren't registered. If you tried to register but didn't get an e-mail and cannot login, there's some kind of problem, so please let me know. Okay here's the deal --
I thought that the system informed users when their accounts have been activated, but it doesn't. So when I activate accounts I'm posting a new news item on the front page.
Once you're activated, login and if you intend to be in this swap session, add your mailing address to the address book. It'll automatically assign you to group AC/DC but that will change in the future. Those addresses also need to be okayed by me,... [more]

spicynuts -- the nixer's list still resides in my pointy little head, I'll be publicizing it before the swap sign-up period ends but you have no reason to fear being stuck in a group with any of those people again because once someone is verified as a nixer, they are forevermore banned from the swap unless they can prove that they neglected to send their mixes because their house burned down or some other similarly intense tragedy prevented it.

Well, actually I ended up with a Jeopardy tote bag (that I now use when I go to the library) a photo of Alex with a spiffy Jeopardy branded frame to display it and $930. The 3rd place finisher gets $1,000 but California has a 7% tax that they apply to all game show winnings of out of state contestants. (Sucks to be KenJen on that score.)
Two funny things: Donna Brutkoski got $2,000 for coming in second, and Mike Bober, who won, got $1,201 for the victory. Oops!... [more]

Question: What is Ann Arbor?
Alternate Answer: This 2-word city stumped all three Jeopardy players and Dreama will never visit there again, dammit.
