well, look, if he'd just grabbed some cigarette cartons i'd have never dreamed of doing that, but i though he was going to beat the shit out of my co-worker
so my arms hurt for a few days because of how hard i swung that broom ... and people were a lot nicer to me for a long time at that place
funny how that works
nice, pyramidtermite.
that's unintentional poetry worthy of don... [more]

spicynuts - i'd still be interested to see these links, especially regarding rollerderby. I know a lot of the derbygirls in my league would get a kick out of reading some feminist critique...

My Mom Can Kick Your Mom's Ass
The Amazon Connection site is (besides being quaintly Web 1.0 beta) conspicuously lacking in modern day rollergirls, who are some of the strongest, smartest and most independent-minded athletes out there today.

maryh - neither would I, but then if she was I'd just give her a major penalty and send her to the box. I'm a ref for the Big Easy Rollergirls. :)

Sorry, rollergirls seem a little bit poser-ish and trendy.
I'll give you that there are those that seem that way - but I've found that the four three-hour practices a week thing seems to weed out those posers, until you're left with a bunch excellent female atheletes who happen to have a few tattoos and some hipster cred to spare.
that being said, black belts in karate are pretty cool too. I am VERY afraid. :)

Samurai, a new cartoon by 3 Legged Legs
meh. Don't really like the Samurai Jack style.
See, I love Samurai Jack's style - and this seems a fairly blatant (and sub-standard) rip-off of Samurai Jack in both style and content.
You'd be better served just (re-)watching Ninjai.

Americans see gloom, doom in 2007
-25 percent anticipate the second coming of Jesus Christ.
-19 percent think scientists are likely to find evidence of extraterrestrial life.
Considering the probable lack of overlap between these two, seems like we're at least 44% batshitinsane around here, one way or the other.
But wait - if Jesus is an undocumented alien, then...

Extreme Resolution Photography
anyone else notice that most of the cars license plates appear to have been intentionally blurred? there are a few instances where i can read advertisements on nearby streetsigns or bumperstickers on the cars that are definitely smaller than license plate characters, but the license plates are blurry.
also, I found almost exactly half of a postal truck. funny.

Henry Rollins on Net Neutrality and Freedom of Speech
for my money, birdhaus wins at #167.
and for the record, Rollins fucking rules. For going on thirty years the man has maintained a constantly high level of integrity, intensity, and raw emotion that most of us will never even approach.

Tabitha Vevers Is Not Allowed to Eat At Red Lobster Ever Again
davidmsc, you obviously suffer from the all too common conceit that those creative expressions the appreciation of which you personally cannot understand ARE NOT "SERIOUS" ART.
Your disbelief in the value of these works of squid-fuckery, however, does not disqualify them from being art. Whether or not something IS ART is not an absolute judgment you (or anyone else) can make. Expressions of human creativity are art the way water is a liquid - by their very... [more]

How odd! I was just watching the Good Eats special one hour episode on salt, "Eat This Rock!" yesterday... lots of good information there. Alton Brown is a fan of the smoked kind too!

Rush Limbaugh, Professional Asshole
These emails claim Fox has admitted in interviews that he goes off his medication." A tireless search of the Internet produces no such record of any interview, or any statement in which Fox has ever admitted or even suggested that he ever goes off his Parkinson's treatment at all, let alone for the purposes of shaking it up for the television audience.

wow. maybe the first time in five years i've felt like i'm seeing a new perspective on that day. my computer has been in the same place in my house all this time, and it's odd to sit here, five years later, see these photos, and think back on the images of that morning.

it's a music review site. with music reviewers. and opinions. and all the requisite encyclopedic musical knowledge and indie pretention and whatever else. fucking disagree if you want. who cares? if it's the only review site you read, maybe you're not getting the full picture of what's out there, maybe you're missing out on a lot - but you know, pitchfork at it's absolute predictable worst is about 3000 times better than depending on ClearChannel for your musical opinions like 98% of the public... after reading both of these amazing stories here today, and thinking to myself, wow, this guy is an excellent writer, i wonder what else he's written... i get home to find a package containing a book i'd ordered from Amazon last week, a bio/monograph of illustrator/comic artist Chris Ware. I hadn't even noticed the author when I ordered it, but when I opened the package, was shocked to notice that it was written the very same Daniel Raeburn,... [more]

The Ultimate Internet Mashup
Hot town, Summa n' The City
Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty
Been down, isn't it a pity
Doesn't seem to be a shadow in the city
All around, people looking half dead
Walking on the sidewalk, hotter than a match head
But at night it's a different world
Go out and find a girl
Come-on come-on and dance all night
Despite the heat it'll... [more]
