Ask post: How can I use my law degree and still like my life?
State legislation is usually drafted by lawyers.

Ask post: Where to park for Yankee Stadium
I went several times last month, and each time we parked at Lot #3 on this map. It cost 17 dollars. We got there by an hour before gametime each time and had no trouble parking there. Staying to the end of the game made leaving slow, yes, but not unmanageable, and not much worse than leaving any other kind of stadium or arena. Leaving early made it super easy to get out.

Actually, when you stay to the end of the game, what takes forever and is very uncomfortable is getting yourself out of the damn stadium. They seem to want to herd everybody down just a few ramps to just a few exits.

Ask post: How to overcome loneliness?
People often feel intensely lonely when IN a relationship. It's not a cure for that.

Ask post: Listen again! Why do people listen to music repeatedly?
Watching films or particular episodes of TV shows over and over again is dull. Reading a book over and over is also dull.

Not for me. I love reading the same books over and over -- I would rather read 1 favorite book 10 times than read 10 different books only once. There are also movies I watch over and over -- in fact, if a favorite movie I own shows up on television, I will often drop everything and watch it, even though I own it and can watch it... [more]

Ask post: You have been weighed and found wanting. Really? Show me.
How about the scene in Dogma where the two exiled angels invade a board room, tell what terrible things the toy company executives have been doing, and massacre them all except for the one woman who has led a blameless life?
posted to Ask Metafilter by JanetLand at 10:14 AM on June 19, 2008
Or are you thinking more along the lines of Death of a Salesman -- I know there's a "bad act" exposure scene, but in a larger sense the play is about how Willy Loman has worked hard all his life but didn't quite get anywhere because he didn't really understand his world.

Ask post: peace of mind 404
Herpes is not usually "bumps" so much as small open painful sores (the pain during urination comes from the urine touching the open sores).

Ask post: Is the British Queen regnant/reigning King allowed into the City of London?
From this page:

The Lord Mayor, who is elected for a one year stint, is the monarch in the City. As Aubrey Menen says in "London",
Time-Life, 1976, p. 16: "The relation of this monarch of the City to the monarch of the realm [Queen] is curious and tells
much." It certainly is and certainly does !

When the Queen of England goes to visit the City she is met by the Lord Mayor at Temple Bar, the symbolic... [more]

Oh, sorry, I should have mentioned that I too thought those websites were goofy, but they seemed to be addressing the old tradition or whatever that krautland remembered hearing, so I figured they'd do. But probably I shouldn't have. My bad.

Ask post: Oh hai~I can haz umploymentz?
The complication is that I've had a longstanding 1 month vacation planned, starting in 2 weeks.

I'm confused -- are you trying to get unemployment for just those 2 weeks? Or while you're on vacation? I'm pretty sure you have to be at home and actively looking for employment to keep getting those unemployment checks. From the same page drezdn linked:

Ask post: Ye Olde DMV
A state's code or statutes might not be much help -- often, all the statute does is give rule-making or regulation-making authority to the state agency, and the subsequent rules/regs. have the force of law, but don't appear in the statutes. You might want to try contacting the DMV directly. Or, it's possible that the state law library may have this information. Here's the one for VA.

Ask post: How do I rehab my formerly broken foot?
When I had a broken ankle, my therapist had me take a ball to work (the size you play kickball with and they sell in those big cages at the grocery store) and just roll it around with my foot while I sat at my desk. Try and keep your whole foot on the ball the whole time. Very helpful, although whenever I left the room my coworkers would swipe the ball to play with.

Ask post: Why do some people wear shoes indoors?
Without having read any of the answers: I invariably wear shoes indoors, because there's cat hair and tracked litter on my floors that has appeared during the day, and I don't want to step in it, or on the bread crumbs I left on the kitchen floor when making breakfast. I don't like slippers very much; they tend to feel slippery, if you'll pardon the expression. I'm also prone to stubbing my toes, and shoes provide some protection against that.

In snowy or rainy weather,... [more]

it seems like there's this false dichotomy between being shod or barefoot. Socks, people. They're like the house slippers you always have on.

I don't have carpeted floors. Socks are too slip-and-slidery.

Ask post: Stretching Without Bending
A cardio video I have demonstrates a modification for the standing quad stretch -- instead of taking her foot in her hand, the woman rests her foot on a railing that's about knee height. The seat of a chair will work as well. I just tried it, and by pushing my hips forward a little I could feel a stretch in that quad, and my knee is only at about a 90 degree angle.

Ask post: Uhm Doctor, whats the belt sander for?
Here is the part of the VA code that covers tattoos. It does not specifically mention tattoo removal; indeed, "tattoo parlor" is defined as a place that DOES tattoos, not removes them. However, I would imagine that the business you propose is still going to be regulated by the Board for Barbers and Cosmetology. If you can't find what you need in their regulations, call them.... Ask post: What does the phrase "Look Away" mean in the chorus of the song "Dixie".
This article hints at another possible interpretation -- "away" is used in the archaic sense of "let's go to the place I want to go!" Something like, "Let's away to the battle, my brothers!"

Ask post: It's hard to be cool. Then why is it so hard to get out of it?
You might be interested in this interview with the two South Park Guys. They get into coolness towards the end:

A big key to us is that we both grew up in Colorado in the ’80s, and we wanted to be punk rockers. When you were a teenager in Colorado, the way to be a punk rocker was to rip on Reagan and Bush and what they were doing and talk about how everyone in Colorado’s a redneck with a gun and all this stuff. Then we went to the University of Colorado at... [more]

When I was first married, my mother-in-law called one night and said to me, "This is Steve's mother." I burst out laughing and said, well, I can't call you THAT, what SHOULD I call you? We ended up settling on her first name. Since then I always ask.

Universal Radio sells used equipment; you might write them and ask what the chances are of getting one through them.

What in particular do you like about the ICF-380? Maybe there's a current model that would give you the same features.

Ask post: That Atlanta airport saying
What I've heard is closer to Konolia's answer -- after you die you'll know you're going to hell if you have to change planes in Atlanta. It's not because Atlanta's a hub, it's because it's a friggin' pain of an airport. Too big, lotsa delays, that kind of thing.

Ask post: Sloe Gin = Fast Dunk?
Here's my sloe gin fizz recipe. It isn't very authentic -- we asked bartenders and improvised trying to make ourselves what we were getting when we ordered in bars -- but it's yummy.

1 part gin
1 part sloe gin
3 parts sweet 'n' sour mixer
2 parts 7-Up

Serve over lotsa ice.

Ask post: I Hate The Yellow River
She may be getting old and senile, like my cat, who is also 16. After losing numerous possessions and trying everything you've tried, I caged her. She has one of those multi-level cat cages with shelves for food and sleeping, and the litterbox at the bottom. Part of the spider plant hangs inside so she can chew on it. I felt terribly guilty about it, like I was putting her in jail, but it doesn't seem to bother her a bit -- she sleeps about 20 hours a day anyway, so the only time she wants out... [more]

Again, it's more complicated than her simply missing or not using the box. She uses the box AND she frequently pees elsewhere.

Yeah. That's exactly what my cat did (the one that's now caged). Even now, with the cage, she will pee both in the box and just outside of it, necessitating the use of puppy training pads on the floor of the cage to make cleanup easier.
